I agree; I found the article to be quite touching...especially the paragraph that described how Richard became a little more spiritual after he learned that he was HIV positive. And the article also makes it quite clear that he wasn't going to let the virus take him out without a fight.

Richard, I hope you're having a nice time up in heaven, as I'm sure you are. You've certainly earned it.

Oh, thanks for reminding me about the homepage, heralde. I never go there, so I forget about it. It looks rully gorgeous!
Yeah, I thought it was a long shot, but I'm glad MC made the effort.

I contributed the article, but I really don't know what to say. Having an interest in Richard and the Muppets has definitely inspired me to take more chances in my life, be bit braver and more positive. Which is great. So, I hope we are all inspired to be "walking, talking, breathing balls of fire!*"

*That's from Fraggle Rock, in case anyone was drawing a blank, when Cantus was trying to inspire Junior Gorg.

I'm SO happy! I was at my library today, in the store section where they sell old books and VHS's. A man with his little girl walked in and notice an old VHS copy of "Sing, Hoot, and Howl!", a Sesame Street DVD which features Gladys the cow. The girl asked her father if she could have it. I got my courage up and said, "Oh I've seen that one, it's really good!" The father thanked me and bought it for his child. I felt so good!

"Sing, Hoot, and Howl!" is from 1991, so it's probably one of the last Sesame Street projects Richard participated in. So, it's very appropriate that this happened today.

BTW heralde I've been trying to PM you to ask if you've been reading my Happy Wanderer thread lately and if you like the awesome thread I've recently added featuring you and Kate and Caroline?

Heh, yes now I've seen the thread, very amusing. I know I haven't posted recently, I just ran out of things to say on the topic. But please, you guys keep going! Hehe

Thanks for the nice thoughts, I do sort of think what happened at the library was meant to happen, today of all days. I do think God always answers our prayers in some way. I often worry that the Muppets and things I liked from my childhood will soon be forgotten. Well, now I'm a little more confident that these things will survive, as long as we're around to keep them alive.

I'm sure wherever Richard is, he's appreciated all the thoughts we shared about him today.

I'm sure he does appreciate all the things we've talked about. And you know, we've seen Jerry Nelson and Terry Angus and Mike Quinn drop into the forum every now and then for a quick chat, so I have a pretty good feeling that if Richard and Jim were alive today, they'd come visit the forum too. After all, when Richard got that fan letter (with artwork) from Chris Smigliano (as described in the Tributes section), his first response was to try and call Chris up to say thank you.

Then again, I guess Richard and Jim do come visit, in a way, every time we start talking about them (which is quite frequently in Richard's case).

I forgot all about this clip, I've been sitting on it forever for some reason. The poster claims it's from 1972; three Sesame Street gangsters demonstrate the concept of counting to 3. That music at the beginning and end is classic! It reminds me of all the times Sesame Street was a bit unsettling and scary. lol

Hehe, one thing I like about this clip is how Richard seems to be playing the part of Junior gangster, always saying, "You tell 'em, boss!" It probably mirrored his role with the Muppets at the time.

Ha, wow, that clip was interesting! Cute how they showed how to count to 3.

Loved Richard's character! You're absolutely right, heralde, it most likely was very similar to Richard's role with the Muppets at that time. Also, similar to how Scooter was.

Totally awesome... thanks for the link!
