I don't think he'd do a terrible job actually, Scooter and Ernie have a similar vocal tone.

I think it would be close but subtly different. Maybe just a bit more-in-your-face-Ernier Ernie than we had with Steve. As to whether it would be better or not.... I honestly don't know, but you are right -- it is something fun to think about =)

Four years later:

Actually that would have been interesting since I got the Time Life collection before the DVD season sets came out, so I would have seen the first season opening earlier than I did.
