I just had to do my first hard shutdown on the new laptop. Why? Because it wouldn't go on when a key was pressed or when it was being opened up.

was it in hibernate mode? because if its in hibernate you need to press the power button to turn it on.

sleep mode is when it just shuts the screen off and pressing a button works

I've actually never had a laptop every turn on just from opening the lid
either way check the power settings to see if its set to hibernate or sleep

True, i'm looking forward to seeing them again.

Although, sometimes I feel like they might move there because they have so much family there and love it there so much. But hey, by then i'll probably be in New York, so it's not that far of a drive.
