If 9 had been the number of the day, we would have seen the elusive number 9 falling baker sketch with .

Naturally, we forgot to count little you-know-who... so there are 10 monsters! The number of the day is 10! Oh well.

There was something very apt about this scene. Par for the course, really.

Will somone please corect me if i am wron but wasnt SS more about coroperation and sharing and diversty. Now its all about Elmo WHY they could still do the same format just not so much elmo.

I failed to see the irony...why was it ironic? Is he the 10th main monster character or something? What has Elmo being #10 for the number of the day have to do with anything else that makes him ironic?

Would have loved to see that as well... but I think that SW didn't want to haggle with Henson (who owned the rights at the time the special was made, not Disney) for just one short clip of Rowlf. They made a special exception for Kermit, as he's been on the show from the beginning till that EMTV resale of the SS characters to Henson.

At least, that's my understanding. My other guess is that 10 was the more popular one... (as it was transcribed in the SS Unpaved book)

Because...one of the main gripes adults (who grew up with "Sesame Street") have with Elmo is that he has hogged the show, taken it over and forced other beloved characters we all grew up with off the show.

And here, so the joke goes, he did it again. The "number of the day" was this/close to being "9," and then Elmo had to join the "monster parade" at the last minute, so the number was changed from "9" to "10."

*Rowlf* made a memorable appearance in the "9" film, sticking his head through a hole in the wall surrounded by nine light bulbs and saying "Nine lights." Then he turns his head upside down. It is the single most memorable moment for me in all the "Baker" films, except for the Baker himself falling down the stairs.

Therefore...*Elmo* (so the conspiracy theory goes) is once again responsible for *preventing* a classic and beloved Muppet character (in this case Rowlf) from appearing on the show.

I get it. I understand what everyone's sayin'. Unfortunately, the real problem is all that red tape (as I've said, the EMTV sale of SS muppets to SW, and the deals they have to make with Henson just to get brief taped Kermit clips on the show retrospective) it would have been impossible to get that clip. I think SW went back and cut it out of SS Unpaved, but I'm not too sure.

But, I wonder... if they did not count Elmo, would they have used the baker skit, or would they have used another old clip, like Martian Beauty, or Pinball count #9....

Point to ponder.....
