It was kind of an inside joke for hardcore Unpaved fans. Don't feel bad if you don't "get it".

Yeah, I would have liked to see Rowlf, but then again I knew from the beginning that Elmo would be counted. After all, he IS a moster. These days, it's sort of a treat to see the baker skits in general.

Are you all talking about that Rowlf was cut from the baker film, or that they just never showed the baker film? I still don't get it. What does Rowlf have to do with SS anyhow? He was in a test pilot episode and the baker film, and that's all.

I'm just lost now for sure.

Rowlf was in Baker film number 9, but I don't think they showed that on Unpaved (the entire skit, not just Rowlf). Don't know if they didn't show the episode or just cut it out of the final...

I mean, if henson still owned the Muppets (all of them... not just talking about the Disney purchase, I mean the EMTV deal) including SS characters, they could use the skit again, but now that it's all split up and crazy.... I don't see how it's feesible.

But I have the sneaky suspicion that this was premeditated. They decided to use Baker #10 because, out of all the Baker films, I think it's the most popular. But I feel for you. Would have loved to see #9.

Speaking of that, there is a "Sesame Street Live" show playing in the Chicago area (or will be soon). I have heard radio commercials for it, and in the commercial, Oscar is called a "green monster."

Is it correct to call Oscar a "monster?"

I do also remember though, when Cookie Monster sang "C Is For Cookie" (in the classic early 70s clip of that song), Oscar is singing and swaying in the background along with Grover, Herry and other monsters. But just because we caught him *associating* with monsters doesn't conclusively *prove* he *is* a monster.

Did someone claim that the #9 film was *edited out* of an "Unpaved" episode? That's sad, but since every episode of "Unpaved" was edited by a few minutes, not surprising.

I don't know about all the character licensing and all that, though I did notice some legalese about Kermit in the closing credits of the special. That wouldn't surprise me either. But you'd think it would be all right for them to show a brief appearance of a character lasting all of about 15 seconds or so.

That's actually the first place I ever remember seeing Rowlf, though I know he pre-dates "Sesame Street" by a number of years. I remember reading an article about Jim Henson and the Muppets in the Chicago Tribune Magazine around 1975 or so, before "The Muppet Show" started, and there were some stories about some of Henson's early TV work and some photos. I remember thinking, "Hey, that's the dog who says 'Nine lights' and turns his head upside down!" That's also the first place I learned his name was Rowlf.

Heck, they'd probably add a 27th letter to the alphabet if it meant including Elmo.
