It was a 1975 episode...I believe it involved the introduction of Rodieo Rosie...if I remember correctly. I have to check my tapes. Bert has an additional line in this skit (not shown on A&E) "Very funny..Very funny!!"

Yes. It was with the introduction to Rodeo Rosie. I believe it's on the episode where the Count counts lights.

Their first appearance was actually not even nationally aired.

It was on the ORIGINAL Sesame Street pilot episode that was shown in July of 1969 (not the famous November 1969 pilot shown on Noggin), and only shown to 100 families who were paid by CTW to watch a week's worth of test shows on a UHF station in Pennsylvania.

Ernie and Bert were the only Muppets on the show and did not interact with the humans....That is, until test audiences found them the only redeeming quality of the shows.

And you're right, Ernie and Bert's first sketch was the "two noses" one.

If you want to see the skits, order the A&E Biography video on Sesame Street from the A&E online store.

It's WORTH every penny! it's only 30 dollars!
I see. So Ernie and Bert's first appearances were mainly test pilots?

Little Bird debuted in 1970 and last appeared in 1988-1989.

It's his (her?) voice that most sounds like Fran Brill's.
