Then on the back it says "And hopefully this has made you feel all warm and SQUOOSHY inside," underneath which is a picture of a sad-looking fellow whose head is about to be assaulted by a falling whale intestine. I think most of you can recall where the inspiration for that came from.... *shuddering over impact of exploding whale* :stick_out_tongue:

Has anybody seen that commercial with the guy giving his girlfriend some fancy piece of jewelry for Valentine's Day in front of her class of young students, after flashing back to his first attempt at a gift way back when he was little - he gave her a frog in a jar and she was horribly disgusted? Well, I keep saying I wish a guy would give me a frog for Valentine's Day so I could be properly appreciative. So my dad gave me a big stuffed frog in a huge plastic cookie jar for Valentine's Day. Awwwwww... :flirt:

Yeah, it was definately better than the one my friend Melissa sent me...that one had what looked like a dying Cupid trying to assasinate some ugly flowers.

Yeah, I've never cared much for Valentine's Day either. Apparently Kermit doesn't either (check out the Andy Williams Muppet Show episode).

What really bugs me is the commercial sappiness to get people to buy more stuff. I have no girlfriend, and I'm pretty sure I'll never have another one again as long as I live. My last girlfriend had an absolutely rotten temper, and said quite a lot of hurtful things about myself, my family and my friends too. And yes, she even insulted Jim Henson. I could type what she said about Jim here (she didn't swear), but I'm not going to. It was bad enough I had to hear it. I don't want you guys to have to read it.

To put it simply, it was an absolutely miserable experience. When she finally left me, I watched that beat-up old car of hers rattle off into the distance, and I stood there with two Fraggle Rock moments going on in my head. One was from "You Can't Do That Without A Hat" where Boober yells "I'M FREE!!!" and throws his hat in the air. The second one was the happier reprise of "The Friendship Song" from the "Marooned" episode. "Stay a little longer with your friends..."

Since then, I have enjoyed being single, and I'm just glad to be able to watch my Henson-related stuff without any snide remarks or eye rolls from that insufferable shrew.

Yeah, Valentine's Day can be kinda depressing the way commercialism has forced it down people's throats...and with the way all that stuff's displayed in the stores, I instantly turn into Oscar the Grouch whenever I go shopping.

"Hey, what is all this? Pink hearts? Flowers? Yuck! Hey, what's this sign...oh no! 20% off all stuffed Smoochie-Woochie Bearsy-Wearsies? This is enough to make a grouch sick! Get me outta here!":grouchy:

I agree with what DrTooth said earlier in the thread about when you're single for Valentine's Day, you get to save money to buy more Muppet stuff. Right on, DrTooth! Quite frankly, I don't want to spend my money on sappy stuff. As Kermit once said "I hate romantic junk like that!" My hard-earned cash is going towards two Uncle Deadly figures, thank you very much.

As for those chalky little hearts. There's only two things good I can see about them. One is that they inspired a really cool Futurama episode (called Love & Rocket):

Click here for a funny sound clip from this episode:

And the other thing good about them was the "crunching contests" my class had back in grade school. Thirty kids all crunching at once in the classroom...heh heh heh...we all sounded like a bunch of old hound dogs eating Kibbles N' Bits! Drove the teacher nuts! Heh heh heh!

But yeah, all this commercialism..."Wuv" confuses and infuriates me too. Perhaps I'm part Omicronian...hmmm...
