The crystal was causing you all on the surface NOT to see them.
That was a defense system, since they were the last free by demon tribe.
Now that it was destroyed, you can See them..

(Ok...an underwater cavern seems like an odd place for demons and sort of contradicts what we established about the place earlier. I was going to go in the direction it was some ancient civilization of fish people...I think, honestly, we should leave the family thing until we really start running out of ideas cause I think its better if we wonder about it...I mean...it could potentially go on for a long plot)

(In that case, why don't we make it an illusion that somehow only Sarge and Grace could see, so we broke the crystal in an attempt to try to stop it.)

(so, in other words, the family's been only an illusion and the destruction of the crystal destroyed the illusion? But you want to use the family thing eventually some time in the future. Did I get that right?)
