I think it was the same day we met Jake... or did this happen the day before? Well, if it was the same day we met Jake, then I would say it was just a coincidence :/
I mean he was freaked out when he met a hybrid but he was more concerned about getting away instead of hurting Marie too badly. To stun her, yes; but not to kill her.
