We go for VI's

During Season 2, before Vi's Diner closed its doors, Morgan, Rita, and Jim pay tribute in song to their favorite short order cook.

Morgan: I go for potatoes.
I go for ham.
I go for greens
And candied yams.
I go for soul food
And homemade pies.
And that is why I go for VI's.

Rita: I go for meat loaf
I go for peas.
I go for hot dogs
And cheddar cheese
I go for spaghetti
And blueberry pies.
And that is why I go for Vi's.

Jim: I go for bananas
I go for shakes
I go for French fries
And sirloin steaks.

Lee: He goes for potatoes.
She goes for peas.
He goes for French fries.
They know I please!
They go for good food
And homemade pies
All: And that is why we go for
Vi's!!!!!!!!

Lee: Okay, everybody eat up!

Having spent many years cooking in restaurants, it is a pleasure seeing others enjoying my food.
Some EC songs can be real tearjerkers.
How is Howard - Judy reminisces on her old boyfriend (Skip), even remembering the two of them dancing together.
I’m a Sneaker Freak - Jimmy sings a sentimental ode to his old, worn-out pair of shoes.
I Was Young Once Too - Jimmy plays an old man recalling all that he WAS in his youth, getting extra teary at the end.
How I Love You, ING - Lee sings about the ING ending, eventually getting stung by a bee and crying.
Shoo Shoo Sunshine - Morgan croons a bluesy song replete with SH sounds by the railroad track.

Here's Morgan Freeman again, playing Vincent the Vegetable Vampire.
Vincent could be a bit hard of hearing.
First he misheard Luis‘ request for “tea with cream” as “tea with scream”, letting out a high-pitched scream at him!
Then, at the shoe store, he misheard another EA word and gave him a pair of “leakers” by pouring water into his shoes.
And remember when he ate a deck of cards because he thought Luis said “Your meal”?

Exclamation Point Jacket: We see Jim Boyd and Luis Avalos meeting each other on the street. Jim was wearing a brown jacket and tie and Luis was wearing a tie and blue jacket covered with exclamation points. Luis shouted, "HELLO! HOW DO YOU DO?!" Jim held his ears and asked Luis why he was yelling. "I DON'T KNOW!" said Luis wondering too. Jim suggested that maybe Luis was yelling because he was wearing that exclamation point jacket. "MAYBE!" said Luis. Jim suggested that they trade jackets to see if that was true. And they did. Luis, now wearing Jim's plain brown jacket was now speaking normally and asked, "How does it feel." And Jim now wearing the exclamation suit shouted, "TIGHT! REALLY TIGHT!"
A little punctuation changes everything. Rita narrated this one, of course.
”Hey, you guys.”
The period changes into a question mark.
”Hey, you guys?”
The question mark turns into an exclamation mark… everyone cover your ears…
”HEYYYYY, YOUUUU GUYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYS!”

Also, remember when Morgan, Judy, and Skip, in that order, wore punctuation marks on their shirts and encountered a mysterious box?

Morgan was excited: “A box!”
Judy was curious: “A box?”
Skip was uninterested: “A box.”

And what was inside this box?
”Cupcakes!”
”Cupcakes?”
”Cupcakes.”

All three of them took a bite, and once again, Skip showed no excitement…
”Good!”
”Good?”
”Good.“

But then Skip took another bite, and he must have REALLY liked it, because he ripped the exclamation mark off Mark’s shirt and put it on his own!
“Mmmm… GOOD!”

Another skit pulled out of the depths of Season One.

Bill Cosby and Lee Chamberlin sitting at a table in a fancy restaurant. Lee in an elegant dress, Bill in his tuxedo and top hat, puffing on his ever-present cigar.

Cosby: "WAITER!!!"
Lee: "WALTER!!!"
Two or three more attempts of Cosby screaming for service.
Cosby finally pulls Skip over, and demands "WATER!!!"
Skip stops Morgan Freeman and explains, "WALTER wants WATER!"
The customer is always right, so Skip and Morgan pour pitchers of water on his head.

Even dripping wet, Bill's cigar is still lit.
Watch out for the letter W - chances are you’ll get soaking wet if that letter’s involved.
Just ask Luis, Skip, and Jimmy, who, in stop motion, spelled out the words wax, wag, wig, and wit on their shirts. Then, Skip took off his I shirt, revealing an E, and…

SPLASH!
”That’s WET!“

One other skit with edible letters.
Judy was sitting at a table with the word “breakfast “ in front of her. She crumbles the letters into a bowl, pours some milk, and we’re starting our day off right.
On the subject of BR words, Morgan layed “bricks” on a wall and Rita showed off her “bracelet”. Then Skip put toothpaste on his “brush”… and brushed his HAIR with it!
So then… how does he use his hairbrush?

Two more “sh” bits. I don’t know if we covered these yet.
One cartoon had this thing that looked like a dustball with feet.
“Shucks! I need a SHOWER!”
“Shucks! I need a SHAMPOO!”
“shucks! I need a SHOESHINE!”

He has the coolest white sneakers on his feet.

“Shucks! Don’t I look SHARP!”
And his dusty ends stick out like SHANKS.

Then another cartoon, two city kids meet up.
“Hey, Sherman!! Dig my sharp shiny shoes!”
His shoes are so shiny, Sherman almost gets blinded.
Sherman:”Wow! I need shades!”
Then some offscreen voice calls out
“Hey, dig my man’s shoes!”

There’s a stampede kicking up a ton of dust, and some guy wearing a party hat in the middle of the fray.

Sherman: “Now you got shoddy, shabby shoes!”
Friend: “Shucks! I need a shine!”

I can honestly say I never had a shoeshine. My crappy shoes weren’t worth it.
And another one: a passerby asked a sculptor, “What are you making?” “SH”, the sculptor replied, as he was carving those two letters out of stone. So the passerby whispered, “What are you making?”

Too bad Lorelei got phased out after Season 1. But she did leave behind one memorable nursery rhyme.

Rinky Dink Dink
Three men in a sink
The butcher (Morgan Freeman)
The baker (Lee Chamberlin)
And Freddie the Fink (Skip Hinnant)
Fred gave a tug
And pulled out the plug
And I think that that sink will soon sink.

Mogan: “Fred, you’re a real fink!”
Skip: “I know”.

They could have abandoned sink, but Fred observed the time-honored nautical tradition of going down with the sink.
“Hey, what’s this?”
“That’s the plug, stupid. Now the raft will shrink! What are we gonna do? Think, think!”
“I know what we’re gonna do!” “What?”
“Sink!”
“Remind me not to take you next time.”
