Okay, isn't this movie like SO FREAKIN' AWSOME! Ya know, the 1996 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes? At first, it seemed really stupid to me, with the whole 'updated for modern audiences' feel. But now, I LOVE IT! I really enjoy the soundtrack of the movie, epsically "Kissing You" by Des'ree.
And my favorite scene is the party at Capulet Mansion (isn't Mercutio the best?). Has anyone seen this movie? (it is 13 years old). What were your first reactions and your overall oppinion of it?

I remember the film, it was huge when it came out. I'm not usually a fan of modernizing classics, but in this case I think it worked. They had good respect for the material and it was very heartful and the overall message came through.

It took some getting used to, but I'll admit I think it did a good job of helping me understand a few things better than reading it in class ever did.

Ah yes, I watched this movie while I was studying Romeo and Juliet ages back. The concept's hard to get used to at first (making it set in the 1990s while still keeping faithful to the Shakespearean terms and such), but it's actually pretty cool once you really get into it. It was good to see Claire Danes (I really liked her in My So-Called Life), too. Anyway, I actually REALLY enjoyed this film when I saw it, and fer the record R&J is my fave Shakespeare play. Mad soundrtrack, too! =D

It should be. It's become a staple of my high school's freshmen English classes. I never saw the film personally but I know freshmen English classes use it. When I was in 9th grade, our teacher gave us a choice between the 1996 Romeo + Juliet or the then-current Tristan and Isolde (a sappy chick flick from a few years back). Ultimately, all the girls pressured the guys to vote for Tristan and Isolde and we ended up watching that snoozefest of a film. Too bad, considering what I've heard about Romeo + Juliet from others, it sounds amazing. :batty:

awesome! maybe ill see if my mom can bring me to blockbuster.

i have to admit, i actually like some chick flicks. i usually pretend i hate them, to escape the abuse, but SOME i like. some are just plain stupid, but some i dont mind.

Hm, I vaguely remember it. My sister had the soundtrack and I listened to it sometimes.

Btw, I do have to also plug the 1968 film version of Romeo & Juliet, which is also quite enjoyable. Maybe it's just the cute English accents, hehe.
