ya i know that he was an nco. but i still wanted him promoted and become an real officer. i thought that obrien was taken for granted on the station because he was just a chief petty officer. take a look at nog...nog never graduated from the academy, although he did go there for like a year. he was given a starfleet commision because of the war with the dominion...as such, i thought obrien should have been promoted...

I love O'Brien -- he's one of the only regular Trek characters to get married and stay married, have children, etc. I thought he was a strong character, and had many good episodes on both Next Generation and DS9. And yeah, I think he should have been promoted, but in reality--the crews of EVERY Trek series are awfully top-heavy with officers.

My son's name is Miles Benjamin--and although he's NOT named after O'Brien and Sisko, when I realized that his names were both names of DS9 characters, I thought it was kinda funny. If my wife ever finds out, I'm toast. We just liked the names--liked Miles because it was different, but not freaky--and Benjamin after the biblical Benjamin.

Of course our second choice was Chewbacca The Edge...NOT named after the Wookiee and U2's guitarist.

Back to O'Brien--I like him.

And it was nice to have someone "down to earth" like he was. I also enjoyed the friendship he built with Julian--when they started out not liking each other AT ALL. I've developed several friendships that way, and it seemed very genuine to me. Something that grew out of the characters, not out of left field.

i never really liked the obrien and bashir relationship......bashir is just to annoying and full of himself....if i were on that station i would have told him to shut up before i shoot him out of an airlock!

ya i liked the name miles too. no one every uses miles..names they use are stephen or steven!, jason, jermey, josh, kevin, etc....but oh well...

I like the O'Brien/ Bashir relationship because it's kind of true to life. How many of your best friends are sort of annoying know-it-alls? How many of your best friends think you're an annoying know-it-all?

Actually, originally, it was planned that O'Brien would absolutely hate Bashir. They brought that out, and O'Brien slowly started loosening up to Bashir.

At some point, I think that Kim should have been promoted on Voyager. Like whenever Tom was Demoted maybe.

ya i really hated when kim never got promoted....i think all operation officers just don't get promoted...kim never got promoted and neither did data.......
