I did spot some Asterix comics on the graphic novels shelf in the bookstore recently, but they were kinda hidden in there. And a few pages from one Asterix story were used in the textbook for my French history course last fall. But...yeah, for the most part, international comics, with the exception of manga and anime, of course, don't really catch on in the U.S.

Well, Tin Tin must be kinda popular for American directors to consider it. Not to mention aforementioned PBS special, and an episode of Arthur where they mentioned/paordied it.

But then again we got the cartoon version of Archilles Talon (rechristended Walter Melon), and not the comics.

But that doesn't stop us from getting crappy French animated series like Martin Mystery (which was a disgrace to a pretty good obscure Italian comic) or anything like that. Just wish they'd redub or subtitle the movies.

Oh my God, I am excited beyond words. I own all of the Tintin comics that are currently available, and I used to watch the cartoon all the time on Nickelodeon... I remember it airing paired with The Muppet Show a lot.
Speaking of links between the Muppets and Tintin, I learned something interesting today. It appears that two of the composers - Ray Parker and Tom Szczesniak - who wrote the soundtrack for the 1990s Tintin series were also among the musicians who recorded the soundtrack for Fraggle Rock.

Ahh...Professor...

I think he's my favorite character. I wonder who they will cast for him? Christopher Loyd would be interesting...
Oh, no. No, no no no no. It doesn't matter if the casting for the rest of the main characters is a stroke of genius - if they cast Chris Lloyd as Professor Calculus, I will boycott the movie.

On the other hand, having Wayne Robson reprise the role from the animated cartoon wouldn't be too bad. (Hey, someone up the thread suggested Colin Meara to reprise Tintin...)

In jurassic park four, the military of something like that is actually going to train dinosaurs to use gun's in battle. No joke.

Uh... so they're going through with that? I thought they'd abandon it on the door step like the unwanted child it was.

I betcha if they rerelease JP4 in 20 years they'd change it so they trained the Dinosaurs to use Walky Talkies (sorry... that South Park was on last night).

Yeah, that was me. I thought Colin O'Meara did pretty well as Tintin. And from the sounds of it, in addition to voice work, he's also done extensive theater work in Canada and the UK, including a stint at the Globe Theatre.

Hmm, okay, now that you mention it, Lloyd might sound a tad weird as Calculus, 'cause he's kind of a baritone, and Wayne Robson played Calculus with a high, reedy sort of voice.
