Spielberg and Jackson team for Tintin

I actually wasn't a big fan of The Polar Express. I thought that the characters looked a little eerie with the way they did the motion capture. Like they were almost real, but not quite - it didn't seem quite natural to me.

I suppose I'm just a little dubious about how motion capture will translate for Tintin. If they get all the elements just right it could work, but...I dunno. We'll see, I guess.

I liked the polar express enough, but I think tintin would be better in cartoon. But it will be interesting to see how they do it.

I admit that I don't understand the press release's description of the film at all. We'll have to see how it all turns out - but I'm especially fond of the 1990s series, and most fans believe that to be the best adaptation of the books. It's a shame it won't be released on DVD in the U.S. for a little bit.

Here's something - I visited the Tintin site, the official one run by the Herge foundation, not too long ago. In addition to being a site about the adventures of Tintin and company, it's also a current events site of sorts. Since I'm minoring in French at school, it might be useful and fun to visit the French-language version of the site during the year.

I did spot some Asterix comics on the graphic novels shelf in the bookstore recently, but they were kinda hidden in there. And a few pages from one Asterix story were used in the textbook for my French history course last fall. But...yeah, for the most part, international comics, with the exception of manga and anime, of course, don't really catch on in the U.S.

Back to the movie - there was some rumor floating around that Rupert Grint (aka Ron Weasley) might be pegged to play Tintin, but I'm not sure if there's any truth behind that. I thought Colin O'Meara did a good job in the series (though a few fans objected to his playing Tintin with a Canadian accent), so they could always bring him in, but we'll just have to wait and see.

In the story "King Ottokar's Sceptre," Tintin helped save the kingdom of Syldavia from a hostile Nazi-style takeover by the neighboring country of Borduria.

Here's something that Muppet fans will find interesting: Professor Calculus, the brilliant but often clueless scientist, is called Professor Beaker in some translations of the Tintin books. (but it seems that Bunsen would have been a tad more appropriate)

I think he's my favorite character. I wonder who they will cast for him? Christopher Loyd would be interesting...

Hmm, Christopher Lloyd would be interesting - just as long he can withstand a few shouted blasts of "Blistering barnacles!" from whoever gets pegged to play Captain Haddock.

I'm excited to see who they cast for Thompson and Thomson, and will they both be played by the same person?
