But, didn't they tried that stunt back in the 35th anniversary with Songs from the Street 3 disc collection ?

There were at least many songs that hadn't been released at the time. Also, this was before they started selling the music online or even re-issuing the CDs, so even the tracks that had been released before weren't as accessible. Now, pretty much every album is on iTunes, so there's no difference between getting the song off a new "collection" than going to the album it's originally from and getting it that way.

I'd like songs that haven't been released yet, provided they have the studio recordings for them still.

Now, pretty much every album is on iTunes, so there's no difference between getting the song off a new "collection" than going to the album it's originally from and getting it that way.

Which makes the digital-only albums pointless, since only a handful of previously-unreleased songs are included in any of those.

And even with Songs from the Street having so many previously-unreleased tracks, it doesn't have any previously-unreleased Muppet-only tracks. Just several previously-unreleased celebrity numbers, King of 8, and Everybody Sleeps.

I've been thinking a bit more about my idea for multiple two-disc anniversary collections. This might sound a bit "out there", but how about four collections: A random selection of clips that mostly hadn't been released on video, a random selection of clips that have been released on video (including out-of-print releases, the InteractiVision and Sesame Street TV releases, Shalom Sesame releases, iTunes "Sesame Street Classics" releases, and the otherwise unreleased clips that appear in the Count TV app), a release of the greatest clips that have not been released on video, and a release of the greatest clips that have been released on video (likely countless times)?

Of course, which release order would be best? I guess that'd depend on which consumers are most important, the casual fans (who would probably see the release of the best stuff that has been released on video as the best choice, assuming they aren't aware of all video releases) or us (who would likely treasure the unreleased-on-video ones the most)? And would they note any of that info on the packaging?

Here's a sample of what clips I would classify in those areas (not a full wishlist):
Random Released Segments (I'll also note where these clips have been released) - Ernie's doctor visits (Best of Ernie and Bert), Kermit Casting Director (Old School Volume 2), Little Miss Count-Along (Best of Friends), One of Us Here (Old School Volume 2), Buddy and Jim: Ironing Board (Sesame Street Classics Volume 1), Monsterpiece Theater: Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves (Sesame Street Classics Volume 1), Kermit News: Directions for Little Red Riding Hood (Sesame Street Classics Volume 2), Big Hello 1-20 (Old School Volume 3), I Am Proud of Me (Sesame Street Classics Volume 2).
Random Unreleased Segments - Monsterpiece Theater: The Horse Whisperer, Miami Mice: The Count, Leslie Mostly interviews Cookie Monster, We Coulda, I'm Sad Because I'm Happy (original), Kermit and the Sunglasses Salesman.
The Best Unreleased Segments - Ernie breaks the cookie jar, Forgetful Jones: What's the Name of That Song?, Kermit and the Earmuffs Salesman, James Earl Jones: Alphabet, Upside-Downton Abbey, Grover the Taxi Driver, Nobody, Cast Surprise Song.
The Best Released Segments - Rubber Duckie, Elmo's Song, C is for Cookie, Mad Painter #8, Martian Beauty, A New Way to Walk (original), Sing After Me, The Song of the Count, Beat the Time: Cookie Monster.

Another good idea for an anniversary DVD would be to focus more on the history than whether the clips are among the best-known. Like try to get clips of every recurring character and sketch possible. 40 Years of Sunny Days did lack quite a few recurring characters and sketches.

Here's a little rundown of what I'd do:

Disc 1 (1969-1994)
  • Sesame Street Begins (first scene of episode 1)
  • Rubber Duckie (true original 1969-1970 version)
  • James Earl Jones: Alphabet
  • Henson #9
  • Oscar says the alphabet to Bob
  • Kermit and Grover: loud and soft
  • Buddy and Jim: Sandwiches
  • Jazz #4
  • Everyone Makes Mistakes
  • Grover counts blocks
  • Operatic Orange
  • Bert and Ernie: Bottle Caps
  • Harvey Kneeslapper: B
    [*Big Bird meets Snuffleupagus
  • The Alligator King
  • Mad Painter #10
  • Fix-It Shop Opens
  • Morty Moot Mope
  • Kermit and Joey: Alphabet
  • The Song of the Count
  • Nobody
  • Count and Cookie Monster Co-Operate
  • Imagination
  • Speedy Maria subtracts chairs
  • Sam the Robot: Orange Juice
  • Lena Horne: Bein' Green
  • Anything Muppets Draw Shapes
  • Super-Grover: Barber
  • I'm Square
  • Typewriter: O-owl
  • Milk Song
  • Kermit News: Pinnocchio
  • Pinball Animation #12
  • Bert and Ernie decide to move away
  • Judy Collins: Water Cantata
  • Crack Master
  • There's a Hole in the Bucket
  • Cast Surprise Song
  • Different People, Different Ways
  • Billy Jo Jive: Meatbone
  • Scenes from Hawaii
  • Cookie and Herry share a bicycle
  • Oscar Jogs
  • The Leslie Mostly Show: The Count
  • Geometry of Circles
  • Scenes from Puerto Rico
  • Mystery Guest
  • If I Were
  • Monsterpiece Theater: Upstairs, Downstairs
  • Deena and Pearl: Underwater
  • Dr. Nobel Price: Umbrella
  • Rainy Day Song
  • We Coulda
  • Two-Headed Monster: Cheese
  • Aristotle Makes Lunch
  • Bert and Ernie Search for Dr. Livingstone
  • James Taylor: That Grouchy Face
  • Grover's Waiter Memory
  • Teeny Little Super Guy: Crossing the Street
  • Kermit and the Sunglasses Salesman
  • Goodbye, Mr. Hooper
  • Snuffy Jumps on Trampoline
  • Hola
  • Elmo Rhymes Boys
  • Miami Mice: The Count
  • Snuffy is Seen
  • Scratch My Back
  • Miles Gets Adopted
  • Kermit's Mystery Box
  • Tweedlebugs: Smoke Detector
  • Forgetful Jones: What's the Name of That Song?
  • Food We Eat
  • Mom and Me
  • Luis and Maria Get Married
  • Martians look for earth
  • Danny DeVito: Bus Stop
  • Rock and Roll Star
  • Up and Down Opera
  • Old MacDonald Cantata
  • Fay Ray: Animal Costumes
  • The Word is No!
  • Meet Gabbi
  • AlphaQuest: B
  • Kermit News: Bird Family
  • Mysterious Theater: Circle Search
  • Cecille: Up Down In Out
  • Super-Grover and Super-Elmo
  • What a Gift
  • Monsterpiece Theater: Monsters with Dirty Faces
  • Simon Soundman Meets Old MacDonald
  • Madeline Kahn opens the park
  • Just Happy to be Me
  • Furry Arms Hotel "Danger" sign
  • Ernie catches all the fish

Disc 2: 1994-2014
  • My Name is Zoe
  • Felines
  • first and last cookie

  • Will.I.Am: What I Am
  • Spider-Monster
  • Birdwalk Empire
  • Train: By Five
  • Elmo the Musical: Pizza the Musical

And then a few segments from seasons 44 and 45.

Hmm, looking over that list, there are some recurring things I neglected to list, like Larry and Phyllis, Wally and Ralph, George the Farmer, Sand Animation, more stuff with the adults, the bellhop cartoons, the detective cartoons, Professor Hastings, Monster Clubhouse (well, I could do without that), Hero Guy...

Well, if a 45th anniversary were to happen, here's something I would like for SW: produce a DVD of songs that have been performed albums that have been performed on the LP's that are also known to have been performed on the show, and haven't been released on any format besides albums. There's a good number of them, that I'd love to see. Here are a few examples: http://themuppetmindset.blogspot.com/2013/07/sesame-street-segments-we-would-like-to.html

Another idea would be a DVD consisting of rare skits, songs, and maybe street stories, that haven't been seen on VHS, DVD, Noggin, YouTube, Sesamestreet.org, or iTunes.

Matt Vogel said on his Twitter today that they started production meetings on Season 45 (it probably starts taping next month or so) and says there's "some big fun" in store.

Oh and by the way, I'm not the one who made that post in the link; sure I said that those are some examples of what I'd like to see, but I was just agreeing with the person who originally made the post.

Awesome! That's nice to know, so thanks for pointing it out!
