You know... There are a few spammers recently registering who are all being generated by the same jerk, who lists their email addresses as ending in mail.ru, which I'm banning as duplicates of Forweddingru. Maybe Phil should tweak the system to recognize that address termination as spam, thereby automatically blocking and simultaneously banning them in one swift move.
Why are so many of these Spammers coming from Russia? Many of the ones I have checked out come from Russia.

Well... I don't think they're even from Russia, they just use that international IP ending because they've figured out how to create bogus email addresses to attach to their spam accounts here. There've been a few Canadian .cn accounts I've banned this weekend, though again, their being from that country is rather suspect to me. Hope this helps.

What if you get a real person who wants to be a member from Russia or Canada though? :frown: I always wondered about that with the 'just block anyone from blank' idea...

Well... Perhaps I should've been more specific and say that if an automatic ban for members with that email address ending should be implemented only if the other classic spam signs are present in the person's profile: Sam & Friends as their favorite Henson production; a bogus URL or the word "Test" or the number 1 as their fave Henson character(s); the number 1 in all other information fields; listing a country's name as both their location and occupation; listing their user name as their interests; listing "Man" as their biography... Stuff like that. Hope this helps clarify things.

Oh, okay then . I just like to ask about things like that to be sure :3. I'd hate to think of a poor real muppet fan locked out in the cold :frown:

No worries. After all, asking questions is a good way of finding things out. It would be easier to have the system take care of spammers though, as I have to check and see if they've made any posts, deleting those spammy botherances before booting the member. Posts also make a difference, as there've been legit-looking profiles for members who turn out to be either spammers or quarrelsome people who unfortunately have to be eliminated.

Hope this helps. *Hugs for Becks.

Not only is plovess a spammer, but that user is a repeat spammer, as their other spam account registered under the name plovez were both banned.
