I was reading on TVShowsOnDVD.com today that a company called Vivendo has acquired the rights to distribute Sid and Marty Krofft's library on DVD, and that they were planning to putting out re-releases of complete series sets for shows like H.R. Pufnstuf, Lidsville, and Sigmund and The Sea Monsters (Season Two of which was never released in the first place).

I've never heard of this company before, is anyone around familiar with them, and so, do you think this is a good thing, or a bad thing? Have they released good sets before?

They're the distributing company for SHOUT! factory releases, and the company that's distributing stuff that Genius was going to before it went under. They're the company that SHOULD have released the Sesame Workshop DVD's IMO... they KNOW how to handle old schoolers.

I'm happy that they are going to do a release of The World Of Sid and Marty Krofft on DVD I been waiting for those shows to come to DVD for the past 10 years when I baught HR Pufnstuf on VHS through Time Life.
Now that I have a DVD player I wouldn't mind having those shows on DVD if I can get them. For some reason that I don't quite understand The Krofft brothers always use unheard of companeys to produce their stuff.
They always had an issue with money it seems like... well that's what I was lead to believe anyway going by what I have read about them. I hope they Reliese the Pufnstuf movie as well I would be tickled to watch that on demand instead of whenever Encore decides to play it. lol
I took a chance with Rhino eventhough I neverheard of them and I wasn't let down by them. So maybe this companey would be ok as well. And to here that season 2 of Sigmond to be released good news I seen only 2 or 3 episodes from season 2 when I had The World Of Sid and Marty Krofft on VHS.
Another Krofft goodie I would like to see come to DVD is Live at the Hollywood Bowl the uncut version. The one I saw had 35 minuts missing from it it was made for TV so I guess it was edited but I know the full version exsitis for a fan on a Jack Wild Sits that I was amember of had it and showed it to me. I hope this one works out.

Well, Rhino had previously been releasing Krofft shows on DVD, and they're a relatively well-known company... all I managed to get ahold of, however, was a compilation DVD that had pilot episodes of their shows, but Rhino DID release complete series sets for H.R. Pufnstuf, The Bugaloos and Lidsville as well as individual season sets for the original Land of the Lost and Season One of Sigmund and The Sea Monsters. There was also supposedly another compilation set that was like a best of set of all their shows and such... yet somehow, all of these sets were "underground", and hard to get ahold of.

Last year, another company (not sure who though) re-released all three seasons of Land of the Lost in a complete series set to tie-in with the movie that they did (I watched that movie for ten minutes before I changed the channel, it was that bad... and yes, it was mostly Will Ferrell's fault). And actually, the Pufnstuf movie WAS released on DVD last year by Universal, again, to tie-in with the LOTL movie (the cover art says "From the creators of Land of the Lost").

Again, according to this article, we're expecting re-releases of Pufnstuf and Sigmund, and the last I heard from a Krofft associate, they were also planning on bring The Lost Saucer and Far Out Space Nuts to DVD as well... neither one of them were great shows, but I think it was because they came out at the same time, and were essentially the same show (space, aliens, trying to get back home, etc).

Well, looks like they're starting with a DVD episode sampler

To Kroft fans, I'm happy for you, I guess... but where the crap is my Fat Albert (they have those rights as well)?

Indeed, although that was one of Sid and Marty's lesser-known shows, it was really a gas.

I do know that all of the episodes (I think) are currently on Hulu... it's funny how a couple of Christmases ago, I first stumble onto it, and the first episode I watched was a Christmas-themed episode where the U.S. military developed a nuclear explosive in the form of an audio cassette tape, which President Reagen mixes up in his tape collection, and gives to Fred Willard as a Christmas gift.
