well... this has happend more than once, but, well, see Im a cosmetologist, so I cut lots of kids hair. I have a Kermit plaque on my station where I work, (it says something like "hop when you have to, Laugh when you need to, and what ever you do keep smiling" or something like that) and most of the little kids between the ages of like 5-10 dont know who Kermit is. They either ask me who that is, or I ask if they know who that is. Its... sad. really. Like even my best friends little sister, who is 5, had no idea (I soon fixed that). but yeah, sad

I don't think Krazedmuppet was equating "not recognizing Kermit" sad with, say, "A tornado just wiped out an orphanage" sad, so I think your reply was a bit unnecessarily abrasive. Besides, to almost everyone on these boards, a kid not recognizing Kermit really is sad. What kind of Muppet fan are you to defeat such sentiment?

Hmmm....Children today are different than kids of yesertday, like me. I knew who Kermit was 20 years ago when I was 3, but kids today aren't exposed to the Muppets like they were back in the 80's. I'm not surprised.

Today's children still have Sesame Street, but Kermit is never on that program any more. They also have Sponge Bob, the Wiggles, and other shows they watch too. And plus, there are parents who want to start their kids early with school and make them learn at a earlier age like at 2 or 3 than at a older age and don't let their kids have any time to watch television.

Oy, this thread just derailed and became a train wreck.

When I worked for one of those super-huge discount warehouse places; I did a survey (for my college lit class) where I asked random customers in my check-out line if they knew who Jim Henson was; if they did, I'd ask if they knew who Frank Oz was, if they replied that they did to that one, I'd ask if they knew Dave, Richard and Jerry.

Happily, over 98% knew who Jim was; if memory serves me correctly, over 80% knew who Frank Oz was (this was the mid to late 90's when Frank was already well established as a director). Less then 5% knew of Dave, Richard and Jerry. The interesting thing (IMHO) was that it was adults between 30 and 50 years old who knew the most, and kids 12 to 18 who were mostly unaware. You'd be surprised how many kids 11 and under knew who Jim was. The most common response when I asked "Do you know who Jim Henson was?" was: "He's the Muppet guy!" Kermit never actually came up in any responses or any of my comments or questions, but even though that was less then ten years ago, I'm of the opinion that if I were to do that survey again, the responses may be more in touch with Krazed Muppet's experiances. So I do agree, it is sad. That's a magic and legacy that should never be under question.
BTW - Do you know what the most common response was when I assured them they were correct?

Please, stop. Its not worth it. Ive seen it, it starts out little, then everyone leaves. Thank you Announcer for sticking up for me, you seem to have been doing that a lot for me, thank you, your sweet (SuperScooter used to do that for me ) and Mike didnt mean to sound aggressive. Please, Ive seen it too many times, Ive been on here for 2-3 years now, Ive seen it. Starts out little and private, soon everyones taking sides and leaving. Friendships destroyed. If you think this is not a community, your wrong. Friendships, business, even romance, a lot of feelings. You cant just get on here and say what ever, it goes down a line. People care a lot on here. Were an online family of muppet loving cousins sharing our love for something that we would not be able to do other wise. But, please, Ive seen lots of people go, Ask Beau, ask Fish n' Wolf, its not worth it.

I tell you what's sad: 80's children who remember Muppets as "babies" only, or think of turtles when they hear great classical Artists' names.

Lack of exposure!! That's what's happened to Kermit. When he used to appear on SS regularly, the little kiddies always recognized him. Now, he's just not seen quite so much.
