I'm hoping someone at this forum can answer this little piece of trivia I have. Today I had a flashback to 30 years ago, when was a little kid. I saw a TV skit with a muppet farmer singing a song about "Sloppin' the Hog", and I remember thinking it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen. I remember a pig in the background, and a little bit of the chorus, and that's about it. I have zero idea what triggered this memory, but now these little memories are engrained in my brain, and I'm compelled to find the whole song!
Was this a Muppets or Sesame Street song, or something else? I remember it being a full length song, but I can't seem to find any references to it anywhere.
Any leads will help, thanks!
I had a similar flashback, and I came here maybe 10 years ago and found your post. I remember as you do - it was a muppet sketch with a really funny and melodic chorus, where the farmer sang "Slop the hawgs!, Slop the hawgs!" while the muppet pigs are audibly squealing with delight. This was probably in the 1975-1978 time frame.
The Electric Company "Slop the Hogs" that I believe is referenced here in this tread is from Show 120B, and is a completely different song, yodeled by Skip Hinnant - "Slop the HAaAaWGS! Slop the HAaAaAWGS!". A nice number in it's own right, but not funny in the same way as the muppet sketch that you and I are remembering. That is, unless there are TWO "Slop the Hogs" songs by the Electric Company. If so, I was not able to find the muppet version.
Anyways, I had the flashback again last night, and thought I'd try finding the muppet version in earnest. (keep in mind, I don't necessarily mean it was "The Muppets", but I do recall that there were muppet-like pigs in the scene). My hope is to at least find the lyrics for it. Unfortunately, no luck yet. Perhaps I'll try again in 5 more years, perhaps when I have anoyher flashback.
I hope at a minimum this post helps clarify a few things re: what I remember as the two distinct versions of "Slop the Hogs", and is of some help to the next person who has a "Flashback"!
