Scene 1: In separate shots, the cast presents the numbers 1-10. Big Bird has one nest, Maria has two hands, Grover has three toy cars, John-John has four balls, Gordon has five fingers on his hand, Oscar has six tin cans, Bert has seven bottle caps, Susan has eight flowers, Mr. Hooper has nine licorice sticks, and Cookie Monster has ten cookies which he devours.

Scene 2: Maria is fuming over how bad her day has been. Oscar wants to know why she’s so mad, and as Maria vents about her mishaps Oscar becomes visibly excited. However, Maria no longer feels angry and instead she feels happy that Oscar listened to her. She thanks Oscar with a big hug and a kiss, which enrages him. Oscar disappears into his trash can and throws a huge fit that rattles the can. Maria: “I wonder what his deal is? He must be having a REALLY bad day.”

Cartoon: A man slips on his daughter’s roller skate and feels ANGRY

Film/Song: Henson #7

Muppets: Ernie asks Bert to pretend to be mad. Bert can’t bring himself to do it, so Ernie asks him to pretend that he lost Bert’s favorite paper clip...which makes Bert really mad! Then Ernie confesses that he really did lose that paper clip.

Muppets: A pair of teeth looks for a job at the employment agency

Cartoon: C is for Canary

Cartoon: C is for Cake

Scene 3: Mr. Hooper asks Cookie Monster to help him decorate a cake. Cookie is tempted to eat the cake, but Mr. Hooper firmly tells him not to. As they proceed with three short tasks, Cookie controls himself. Afterwards, Mr. Hooper asks Cookie Monster if he wants a taste of the cake as a reward. Cookie passes...and decides to eat everything else (the bowls of icing, wooden mixing spoons, and piping bag) instead!

Muppets: A group of Anything Muppet children cooperate to grow a flower

Film: A boy imagines that he’s a baker

Cartoon: Two men demonstrate “top” and “bottom”

Scene 4: Gordon and Susan help Bert fill a bowl with birdseed for his pigeons. After one pour, the bowl has some birdseed. Then Gordon fills it up with more birdseed, and then it has the most birdseed it can hold. After Bert leaves with the bowl, Big Bird stops by and consumes the rest of the birdseed leaving none.

First, he asks Oscar if he wants to play...the answer is an emphatic “No!” Then Grover passes Gordon reading a newspaper, and he asks to see today’s comics, which Gordon permits him to do. Finally, Grover walks to Hooper’s Store and asks Mr. Hooper if he can have a chocolate milkshake. Mr. Hooper nods and makes it for him.

Muppets: At night, Ernie waits for the neighbor upstairs to drop both shoes before falling asleep (much to Bert’s dismay)

Film: George the Farmer shows “on top of” by getting on top of different things and putting different items on top of his head

Muppet/Kid Moment: Kermit, Chris, and Stephanie count to 20

Scene 6: Maria, Susan, and Gordon listen to some funk music on a portable radio outside Hooper’s Store. Mr. Hooper doesn’t like their music and asks them to move elsewhere. They protest, and Gordon asks Mr. Hooper to imagine himself as a young person being told what to do by an elder. In a flashback, Mr. Hooper and his friends listen to swing music on the radio at home. Mr. Hooper’s father orders them to turn the music off, leading to an argument. Back in the present, Mr. Hooper apologizes and decides to join the adults for a while. As they all listen to the music, Grover announces the sponsors. SS sign still: the Count. CTW sign still: Oscar.

Scene 2: Mr. Hooper, Susan, and Bob hear loud explosions coming from Oscar’s trash can. They discover that Oscar and Biff are blowing up balloons for a Grouch birthday party, with the aid of a TNT detonator. The adults show Oscar the correct way to blow up a balloon, but Oscar remains set in his ways: “You blow them up your way, and I’ll blow them up MY way! Let’s keep it going, Biff...we’ve got two hundred more to go.”

Scene 4: Herry Monster goes to Mr. MacIntosh’s fruit cart to buy a healthy snack. Mr. Mac offers him apples, bananas, peaches, and pears. Herry decides to take five pounds of each, to Mr. Mac’s surprise. Ultimately, Herry Monster reveals that he doesn’t want to eat the bags of fruit...he plans to lift them for weight training!

Cartoon: Twelve Rocks (stop-motion animation by Jim Henson)

Film: A gazelle runs through a field

Muppets: Mr. Chatterly tries to host an Alphabet Chat about the letter O, but gets interrupted multiple times. The director eventually cuts him off and the set gets taken down, infuriating Mr. Chatterly.

Cartoon/Song: The Ladybugs’ Picnic #12 (by Bud Luckey)

Muppets: Sesame Street News Flash - Kermit interviews Aladdin, who can’t figure out what’s wrong with his lamp

Scene 3: Oscar’s bins have a few items each. Biff and Sully stop by with two bags of cans and bottles that were cleared from the construction site. Oscar tells them which bin to place each bag into.

Cartoon: The front and back halves of a costumed horse follow an ice cream truck

Film/Song: “Have You Ever Been to the Farm?”

Cartoon: A grocery store employee tries to stack twelve cans, but the customers keep taking cans and causing the stack to fall

Cartoon: S is for Snake (repeated in Spanish)

Scene 4: Herry Monster comes by with a special sculpture that he made from old tin cans at home. At first, Oscar tells him to take it apart so that he can have the cans. But Herry doesn’t want to, saying that he put a lot of work into the sculpture. Eventually, the sculpture grows on Oscar and he decides to take it as it is.

Cartoon: Dr. Frankenstein makes sure his monster knows the difference between front and back

Muppets: Lefty the Salesman tries to sell Ernie a scale

Cast: David plays Sluggo the Great, who struggles to put his sporting gear on the right parts of his body

Film: Letter O hoist

Scene 5: Oscar hears Bob playing a tune on a set of glass bottles filled with water. Oscar is intrigued, but hates the tuneful melody. He asks Bob to empty varying amounts of water from each bottle until the bottles are out of tune with one another. This ends up being perfect for Oscar, and he asks to have Bob’s bottles!

Muppets: Sherlock Hemlock makes the sound of the letter S

Cartoon: S is for subway, scooter, skis, skates, and STOP (animation by the Hubleys)

Muppets: Cookie Monster and Kermit talk about weather using a special chart

Scene 6: Oscar sees Gordon and the kids carrying stacks of newspapers. Oscar asks if he can have them, but Gordon shows them all how to make hats and paper airplanes out of newspaper. Oscar asks to have some of Gordon’s hats and planes, which he tears and crumples up for himself!

Ultimately, Susan mentions that Oscar got what he wanted: trash in the bins AND new trash treasures. Oscar confirms, then recoils when he realizes that Grouches should never get what they want! As Oscar goes back and forth, Biff asks Sully to announce the sponsors, but he does it himself without letting Sully speak. SS sign still: Olivia. CTW sign still: Maria.

Season 7: Herry and the broken window/Big Bird waits for Susan

Sponsors: H, W, 8


Scene 1: David’s greeting is interrupted by a loud crash. He rushes over to Hooper’s Store and discovers a broken window. By observing the scene, David notices that Big Bird and the kids are standing nervously in the arbor area. He asks if they were playing baseball, and Joey says yes. Then David calmly asks if somebody threw or hit a ball towards the window. Big Bird explains that Herry Monster hit the ball, but he ran away once the window broke. David finds Herry hiding behind the mailbox at the end of the street. After Herry tearfully confesses to hitting the ball into the store window, David thanks him for being honest but tells him to be more careful next time. David offers to buy Herry a soda to cheer him up, as long as Herry helps to pay for the window. Herry Monster starts to cry again, not because he’s sad but because he’s grateful that David is such an understanding friend.

Cartoon: A wandering man learns what LOVE means

Muppets: Bert’s TV is broken and only repeats the letter “H” in a monotone voice. Ernie tries to fix the TV by turning it off and pulling out various “H” items (a hat, house, hammer, hamburger, and a live hamster). When Ernie turns the TV on, the TV repeats “I” instead!

Cartoon: H is for Hair (speech balloon)

Film: The Mad Painter #8

Cartoon: An elephant and a bear try to cross a bridge while carrying packages, but they’re in each other’s way

Muppets: Guy Smiley hosts “Beat the Time.” Grover has to find five things that contain milk, so Grover brings back some cheese, butter, ice cream, and two cows.

They count nine different toppings for it - salami, pastrami, roast beef, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, onions, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing. The adults invite some kids into the store to share the sandwich. Mr. Hooper counts nine people (four adults and five kids) all together, and he cuts the sandwich into nine equal pieces for everyone.

Scene 1: Susan and Gordon welcome the viewer when they hear Big Bird calling for help. Big Bird is in distress because his nest has fallen apart and needs to be rebuilt. He doesn’t know how to build one, since he inherited the nest from his Great-Grandbird Bertram. Susan and Gordon leave to find Luis, while Big Bird telephones Winnie Wiggins, the 123 Sesame Street superintendent.

Muppets/Song: Bip Bipadotta and the Muppets perform, “Some, None, All” (cameos by Guy Smiley, Prairie Dawn, Simon Soundman, Herry Monster, Cookie Monster, and Frazzle)

Scene 2: Winnie Wiggins comes and suggests that they tape the nest back together. Big Bird isn’t sure, but Winnie convinces him that she can be trusted; after all, she is the superintendent. Big Bird relents and lets Winnie apply tape to his nest.

Scene 3: After Winnie has left, Biff and Sully arrive and observe her handiwork. Biff says that he and Sully can put wooden boards over the broken spots. Sully and Big Bird aren’t sure, but Biff says that he and Sully are trusted experts and forges ahead with the plan.

Scene 4: After Biff and Sully depart, Big Bird tells the viewer that he isn’t happy with the result as the camera reveals the nest covered in sticky tape and wooden boards. Susan, Gordon, and Luis arrive and are alarmed by the solutions that have been implemented. Big Bird explains that Biff, Sully, and Winnie were trying to help but he didn’t want them to think that he wasn’t happy with their work. Gordon says that next time Big Bird needs to tell people how he honestly feels so that they can understand him and help him better. Luis figures out that everyone needs to get some sticks and intertwine them so that they don’t slip. Big Bird and Luis get some twigs, and Gordon and Susan go to get some mud from Oscar.

Muppets: Herry Monster tells Grover a secret, which consists of the 26 letters of the alphabet. He asks Grover to keep it a secret, but Grover quickly tells it to other monsters.

Scene 5: Big Bird’s nest has been rebuilt. He thanks Gordon, Susan, and Luis for helping.

I don't use fanmade segments in these outlines. Only pre-existing segments that aired on the show itself.
