Season 9: A hot day on Sesame Street

Scene 1: The Count greets the viewer on a hot summer day. He searches for things to count, getting hotter and hotter as he continues. Luis and Mr. Hooper ask him if he’d like to come inside the Fix-It Shop or Hooper’s Store to cool off, but the Count has finally found something to count: every panting breath he takes while standing outside in the heat!

Muppets: An announcer presents the letters S, U, and N, which form the word SUN! A group of Anything Muppets gathers outside in the sun.

Cartoon: I is for Impolite (voice by Gary Owens)

Muppets: Ernie attempts to read a book, but it’s upside-down. Bert explains the meaning of upside-down, so Ernie decides to hang upside-down from the ceiling to read his book!

Film: Flamingos, swans, and ducks swimming

Scene 2: Maria and three kids play “Here Are Some Things” with three full glasses of water, and a half-full glass. Afterwards, they quickly drink the glasses of water.

Scene 3: Big Bird wants to count to 11, but he can’t find any items that come in groups of 11. Big Bird counts his fingers, but he only has six in total. Then he tries to count his toes, but he only has six of those as well. Maria walks by in shorts and sandals and greets him; and then Big Bird notices that she has five toes on each foot. He asks Maria to take off one of her sandals, and Big Bird proudly says that his six toes plus Maria’s five toes add up to 11!

Film: Counting eleven eggs and one cookie

Muppets: Ernie counts 11 eggs and one cookie, which Cookie Monster devours

Film: A vintage automobile stretches itself out, getting shorter and longer

Oscar explains that the water is for his worm Slimey. As Slimey crawls onto the counter, Mr. Hooper commends Oscar for helping Slimey stay cool. But Slimey doesn’t drink the glass of water…he jumps into it, splashing water all over Mr. Hooper’s counter!

Cartoon: An elephant and a bird get their outer skins mixed up in the locker room

Muppets: The Amazing Mumford shows Grover his rhyming magic trick (rhymes with “knee” – key, ski, and tree)

Then he goes to Hooper’s Store where Mr. Hooper is cleaning a pan, but that won’t help either. As Sherlock approaches the Fix-It Shop, Sherlock finds Luis, who is a man, but standing next to Luis won’t make him cooler until Luis shows him an electric fan that he just repaired. Sherlock asks Luis to turn on the fan, and they sigh with relief as the fan blows cool air at them.

Cartoon: K is for Kangaroo (woman in kangaroo’s pouch)

Muppets: Grover and Kermit show short and long ladders

Scene 1: Maria finds a piece of paper on the sidewalk. She nearly throws it in the wastebasket when she realizes that there’s a poem written on it. It turns out to be a love poem, but the recipient’s name is torn off at the bottom. As she wonders who the author and recipient could be, she sees David frantically searching for a piece of paper, and he has the missing piece! When they meet up, David confesses that he wrote the poem for Maria, and she kisses him.

Scene 1: David is studying for his upcoming law exam on the steps of 123 Sesame Street. Oscar wants to know what makes people angry. He sees David and asks him this question repeatedly until David snaps at him for “asking such a silly question while I’m trying to study! Can’t you leave me alone and give me some peace and quiet?” Oscar is thrilled that he’s gotten his answer AND upset David in the process.

Muppets: Sesame Street News Flash – Kermit asks people about what makes them angry, but no one has time to answer him, making him extremely angry.

Oscar’s goal is to see who gets the angriest…but his methods (wearing a scary mask, popping a balloon, and blowing his trumpet) only produce fear, sadness, and laughter from the contestants. Oscar is upset that he didn’t make anyone angry…but Bob points out that Oscar is angry, and therefore he wins the contest. This makes Oscar even more infuriated.

Cartoon: A girl shows “next to”

Cartoon: A number sergeant (0) gathers the numbers 1-20 for roll call

Muppets: Ernie eats cookies in bed. Bert tells him not to do this or else he’ll get crumbs in his sheets and pajamas. So Ernie decides to eat cookies in Bert’s bed!

Cartoon: Joe’s Lap (A Limerick)

Scene 6: The Count has finished counting all 24 grapes and orders 24 more bunches of grapes to count. David collapses, and Big Bird announces the sponsors. SS sign still: Luis and the kids. CTW sign still: Maria and Bob.

Scene 1: Simon Soundman goes to Hooper’s Store for a bag of food for his “arf arf.” A confused Mr. Hooper brings him some “meow” food, some “chirp chirp” food, and some “neigh” food before finally getting the order right. As Simon leaves, Maria passes by, walking Barkley. Barkley smells the dog food, leaps onto Simon, and eats the entire contents of the bag.

Film: T is for Toes

Cartoon: Country Fiddler – Three on Lady’s Lap

Muppets: Bert has a surprise gift for his aunt, but Ernie assumes that it’s for him and tries to guess what it is

Cartoon: Fisherman Jones demonstrates in, on, and under with help from a large fish

Scene 2: Gordon and Biff make large geometric shapes out of smaller ones: they use two triangles to make a square, and three squares to make a rectangle.

Season 8: David forgets the keys to Hooper’s Store/Oscar shows up and down

Scene 1: In the morning, David goes to open Hooper’s Store, but suddenly realizes that he’s left the store keys at home. He doesn’t have time to go back home, so he brainstorms several ideas: hanging up a “CLOSED” sign while returning to his apartment, asking Luis to pick the lock, or calling Mr. Hooper for help from the Fix-It Shop’s phone. Mr. Hooper comes up behind David and asks him why he hasn’t opened the store yet. David admits that he left the keys at his apartment and he apologizes. Film: A painter on a high-rise spells and paints the words “WET PAINT.” He accidentally puts his hand on the freshly painted letters and shouts, “WET PAINT!”

Muppets: The Count counts seven flowers. Then he reveals that flowers make him sneeze, and he proceeds to count seven sneezes!

Film: C is for Cars on the highway

Cartoon: C is for Canary

Muppets: Bert can’t go on a trip with Ernie because his hand is coated with purple paint. Ernie remedies this by covering Bert’s hand with a mitten, but Bert feels silly wearing one mitten. Ernie puts another mitten, a scarf, and a hat on Bert; and then he reveals that they’re going to the beach!

Scene 1: Oscar shows Olivia and Bob his new pet: a Grouch squirrel named Musty. The adults advise him not to keep a squirrel as a pet, but Oscar argues that he has a pet worm, two goats, and six elephants already, so it wouldn’t make a difference.
