Sesame Street needs to end

I honestly see it as a way of disrespecting a public figure who can’t otherwise speak for themselves since…… well, they’re dead.

To me it’s no different than so many SpongeBob fans continually putting words in Stephen Hillenberg’s mouth saying he didn’t want spin-offs to happen and Nickelodeon disrespected his wishes the minute he died, in which the reality is he said he never SEES spin-offs happening, which honestly only makes the fans look disrespectful to their idol rather than them trying to “defend” him from the company they’re vilifying.

I think people just over estimate Jim's actual involvement with the show. Yes, he developed those first Muppet characters and helped set the tone of what their bits were. Yes, he made little films. But that was pretty much it. Virtually every creative decision about the show comes from the writers, producers, curriculum people, etc.

Honestly the idea that Sesame Street went in a different direction after Henson passed away to me is ridiculous.

If he were still alive I would absolutely imagine we would still have stuff like the Around the Corner sets and what have you. The show was competing against other PBS shows by this point, and it’s always been up to date with the times and what kids enjoy.

Heck I’d argue we probably still would have had “Elmo’s World” even if he were still present.

Yes, as others have pointed out, Jim Henson did not have as much creative involvement in Sesame Street as people seem to think. It is still possible that many of these decisions would have ended up happening. I am not fond of the Around the Corner era, or of "Elmo's World," but they do not ruin my opinion on the show at all.
I still did enjoy watching Seasons 30-35, and even several ones after that. I stopped watching completely after Season 45, when it was clear that the show was going in a direction that I did not approve of. However, I am not going to bash those recent seasons, when I have better things to do with my life.

Not only that, I've seen a couple of Family Guy and Simpsons fans beg their shows to end. Sesame Street is an everlasting PBS Kids show.

I agree that the show's new direction and fewer classic segments is what would have ended my interest in the show, if I had continued watching beyond 1985.

Also, whoever is complaining about the show needing to end, I hate to be the barrer of bad news... but the show is likely going to continue through Season 60, as the show's writers ratified a strike-averting deal last May.

Might be far-fetched, but I see the show going on for many decades to come. Even after we're all long gone. Just like what some people on the forums stated, Sesame Street does know how to keep up with the times and the creative team will do whatever that'll help kids academically and socially for not just school but for life as well.

There are other shows that tend to keep up with the times as well. For instance, the game show The Price is Right, that's had almost as long a run as Sesame Street, and the producers know how to keep with the times and the show does quite well in the ratings to this day - and there is no end in sight (and that's a good thing). Despite Bob Barker's popularity during his tenure, many people seem to like the show more with Drew Carey at the helm.

Though recently on Facebook, I read comments about the long-running daytime soap, The Young and the Restless, and how much people dislike it now. Based on the comments, the storylines are said to be horrible and some people have stopped watching some time ago. To be fair, daytime soaps are dying in popularity. Yet, strangely enough, CBS is not giving up on soaps - they have planned to launch a new daytime soap in the new year, The Gates.
