Kids actually LIKED Barney?
Little girls wanted to be like the Baby Sitter's Club, and not like Beyonce?

Not all. A good percent and definately all of those on public television, but those on Disney, Nick, and WB! weren't all educational.

Well, that depends on what era you grew up in and what you were allowed to watch. The only ones I remember ever seeing WERE educational in some fashion, whether it was morals, numbers, letters, etc... And really, when I was little, Disney and WB! didn't HAVE preschool shows. I mean, Disney had Winnie the Pooh and Dumbo's Flying Circus, but that was about it.

You must not have had the attention span to notice other gems besides Pooh Corner and Dumbo's Circus, such as Under the Umbrella Tree, Adventures of Wonderland, The Storyteller, and whatever else the Mouse House was churning out.

I just didn't consider those "preschool shows"..... and it's not necessarily as much about my attention span as it is about how much television I was allowed to watch.

No, but they were geared towards the preschooler market. ^_^

Remember when:

Corporations actually decided to give a show a chance to become famous, instead of begging for instant hits?
There's no way something like The Dick Van Dyke Show or All In the Family would survive today. Both of these series had low ratings during their first seasons, and were on the brink of cancellation. They gained a following in the summer, when reruns were shown.

Networks today don't seem to have the patience to let a show run a full season, unless it's an immediate hit.
