Regarding Pepe

Why must we all hate Pepe?

I have heard many users of this forum say that Pepe is "killing off the classic Muppets." Not so; in my mind, he has made himself into a classic Muppet. I think that Pepe stole MWoO, and was one of the funnier parts in MFS. He is always there for comic relief, and has made sure that the Muppets didn't get old and stale.

Pepe is one of my favorite Muppets. He always makes me (and, for that matter, everyone in my family) laugh. Although his Palisades figure wasn't the best (and it could be said he stole what was rightfully Rowlf's place in MWoo), he is truly very funny. I never found Animal that funny. I never found, say, Rowlf that funny. I never found Piggy funny at all. If Pepe is one of the classic Muppets now, and he will be one of the main Muppets for years to come, then I am extremely happy. Bill Barretta is a genius (Johnny Fiama, Bobo, etc. etc. etc.) and deserves to be in the principal ranks of the Muppeteers if he already isn't.

I don't like Pepe. He is over used, over rated and over OKing! I think he should bow out and they should try and introduce newer characters or get the good old one back. Sorry, it has to be said!

Pepe is as funny (if not funnier) than many so called 'classic' Muppets, like Fozzie, Animal, Rowlf, Teeth and Scooter.

i love pepe i think he is a great add and is a classic muppet.he has that im about to push the edge on what im saying dialog .kermit and the others wouldnt be the same without him he makes my fav trio of kermit fozzie and gonzo a quartet of awsome characters

I hate Pepe with a burning, fiery passion.He isn't funny or cute, just plain selfish and annoying. I wish he'd get lost and make way for the real stars.

OOooh. You want the long answer or the short answer?

Short: Anoying, un-amusing, adult, demanding, over-acting, screen-hoging.

Long: Pepe teh King Prawn is anoying, in that he speaks funny, and has "ok" at teh end of every sentence. Which is ok (pun intended) and even funny in moderation. Un-amusing, to me at least I only smiled at one of his jokes. "It may be full of chocolate Ok." Adult. Since when to the Muppets have a permit "for a top-less nightclub, ok?" Demanding. He's always hyper-active and demands your attention from the story. Over acting, see points 1 through D.

Screen-hogging.

The #1 complaint. Side-kick/comic relef, he may be. A screen hogger, he certainly is. Think, MFS. There is ony a certain amount of room for certain charcters, and who is Missing from the Muppet Moive group? Camilla. Who is the movie about? Gonzo. Who is Gonzo's love, teh reason why he wouldn't leave earth? Camilla. Who is in the movie? Pepe.

Oh well...

I really do like Pepe. I like him paired up with Rizzo best. Both of them are cynical, and I find that funny. I think he gets great one-liners because Bill Baretta gives a GREAT delivery of the lines.

The "OK" at the end of each sentence comes from his wife's aunt who, in the same dialect that Pepe speaks, says "Ok" at the end of each sentence, and he found it funny.

I like his adultish humor and inuendoes, carries us back to what the Classic Muppets were all about. Hello? "Sex and Violence" as TMS Pilot name? The Muppets were never meant to be for kids, but for adults first and families second.

I think he fits in with The Muppets perfectly both as a character and chemistry wise, and paired up with Rizzo is a hoot. Loved them in MFS. I hope in the new Muppet tv series they'll pair them up and have them always hanging out with Robin, because he's their size, and use him as their 'patsy.' That would be funny, what with Kermit trying to teach Robin the straight-and-narrow way of life!

If the Muppets try to stick to nothing but clean humor, the public's unfortunate (and incorrect) image of them will never be changed. That image is of a group of for-kids-only puppets. If Pepe is the way to change that image, well, so be it!
