Does anyone know how to disable this thing where when you're typing something in the search text box on sites like Yahoo or Google, or typing in a user name at forums then all of the sudden a little drop-down list appears with all of the search queries or names you've signed on under appears underneath what you're typing? I'm telling you, if my mom sees I've been at forums or at MySpace, I WILL be the next That Announcer!

I don't know how or if you can disable it at all my dear friend, however if you don't want a certain query or username to appear all you have to do is highlight it in the list with your mouse. Don't click it. Clicking puts it into the search box. All you have to do is move the mouse onto an individual title in the search list and it highlights it automatically. Then press the button on your keyboard marked Delete and it will be deleted and no longer appear in the list. Each time you re-use the search query it will need to be re-deleted of course. Sorry Snowthy, that's the best advice I can give. I hope your mother doesn't catch you. I'd miss you so badly. :frown:

Thank you Marty, that worked!!!

Actually, I guess my being on forums isn't TOO bad, she's approved of me signing up on forums in the past; she just doesn't want me going into chatrooms is all, and she doesn't approve of me on MySpace (even though she doesn't know) because she hears about a lot of sexual predators there and is concerned about my safety.

Well I was thinking similarly about the forum side of it because after all this is a forum.
As for MySpace there is admittedly a very real certain grain of truth to it. I haven't even told my mother about my account with it and I'm 35.
But it can be fun as long as you're very careful about who you talk to on it and not accept offers to meet from just anybody. It's sad that there's so much evil in the world that makes it hard for us nice people isn't it?

I mean I would be very happy if I ever had the opportunity for us to meet one day in your country or mine and I know you trust me as much as I trust you. But your mother would understandably be worried, as you only have my word in a technical sense that I'm a true harmless friend. Those predators out there really give us goodies a bad name.:frown:

But it's okay. I am thankful for the contact we can have through MC and I look forward to meeting you one day in the Heavenly Kingdom.

Chatrooms I can understand her being concerned about, fer sure. Forums are just as bad because everything is logged - people can read what you've said over years! You just have to be aware of what you are saying and who you are saying it to, that's all.

I agree with you with the chatrooms thing. Forums I am not TOO concerned about, although some can be dangerous. Just make the right choices and be smart about the types of forums you join and the people you interact with. I think we're all pretty safe here at MC compared to most online groups. Also, as long as you don't give out a lot of personal information you are even safer. It is a scary world out there and there has been a huge problem with internet preditors. I can completely understand where a parent would be concerned. As for Myspace, you can simply have your profile blocked from public view and only accept people you know or are friends with to be on your buddy list.

Yup you guys are right, even on forums, you have to be careful about personal information. The more you give out, the easier it is for bad people to track you. The Internet is great, but it's not monitored and could be taken advantage of by anyone. You can't log in assuming everyone is safe and can be trusted. Probably most people are fine, but you have to be smart and careful just in case.

I'm sure myspace is pretty safe generally. But given all the news stories lately, I don't have much confidence in the moderators' ability (or desire) to protect its members.

I needed to do something like that too D'Snowth. So I know how you were feeling! If anybody knew... I'd be sooo dead! But I can't tell because I think my mom has a forum account under a name that I don't know!! ... I hope she doesn't read this!

what's wrong with myspace?

You'd have to be pretty messed up/stupid to meet up with some random person on it anyway.
