Well, I'm saying, before they knew smoking was bad, was it just something appropriate for adults, not children, on the idea of the two examples I gave?
Yeah, that is the case. But interesting how you're bringing this up, because back in the day the Flintstones would do smoking commericials.

But yeah, I think it was always inappropriate for kids to smoke in any time.

Well, The Flinstones was really a cartoon created for adults, and came on it the later hour's of prime time.

A Winston taste good, like a cigarette should! (Er...just making a point)

In no way does this posts encourage the habit.

smoking is bad for your health we know that now. we have to educate our children on smoking and why it is not good for you.Little girls i have two and they only wear nail polish when they are playing dress ups. nail polish is banned at their school. my girls don't wear make-up even though they have it in their bathroom they don't seem to want to wear it. probably as i don't wear it myself.

Man, I must live in a really screwed up place. A ton of people still smoke around here. I have never even tried it, but it seems like everyone around me does. Also, you should see how the young girls dress. It's kind of funny, but a bit sad. They are like seven or eight years old, and ride their bicycles around wearing full makeup, mini skirts and high heel shoes. I don't know who they are trying to impress. Maybe the eight year old boys?

Ha! humorous! Everybody, and I mean everybody smokes where I live, I think it's like the Tobacco capital of the world. I not trying to toot my own horn here, but I have never tried, tested of experimented with a cigarette in my entire life, and I never intend to.

How come before they knew smoking was bad, it was naughty for children to smoke but okay for adults? And how did Disney get to make movies with bad guys AND good guys smoking?
At the time, there would have been no distinction between the good guys or the bad guys smoking. It was something everyone did. It wasn't a sign that the person was bad.

If a little boy from 1940 smoked, he'd be trying to act like a tough adult, going out and partying. So it would be inappropriate for his age, like drinking alcohol. When he was older, he'd be able to smoke if he wanted.

Yes, the movie was released in 1940, but it is set in Italy in like the 1400s or 1500s-well, the days before electricity.
