I sent an email to both your AOL account and your Hotmail account. I told you I'm interested in your shows but I'd like to know the episode numbers. They are superimposed at the beginning of each show. You can send me your originals, I'll make myself a copy, and send back your originals along with a copy of whichever episodes of Sesame Street Unpaved you want from me. I have most of them, so let me know which you want and I'll let you know if I have them. Drop me an email at snowpeck@yahoo.com.

On the track listing it lists Italian Street Song...

That's the skit with Placido Flamingo and Segi Osawa, right?

Unfortunately, yes.

I LOVE this special, but it has a somewhat black cloud over it for me. I first saw it in probably late 1989, just after moving to Florida. It was still back in the day when it was the routine of my sister and I to watch Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, and Captain Kangaroo together (me being almost two, and her being five or six). After seeing this special, I refused to watch SS most of the time. Why? Very simple.

THAT FLAMINGO SCARED ME HALF TO DEATH! He still does! I really have a hard time watching scenes with him, even now, and as a result, I went through early childhood without watching but the two or three episodes of Sesame Street we had on tape. That's likely why I started watching it again when I was 8...to make up for lost time.

Otherwise, it's a wonderful special, I can't reccomend it enough (this being the second of the two Phil Donahue episodes, a crack up as always when he seems to take offense when he's told he doesn't need a microphone to talk in person).

Hey, I'm sorry that you didn't like Placido Flamingo. I guess I can see how one might find him scary. Personally, that's among one of my favorite characters that Richard Hunt did. He was so vain and full of himself, and yet for some reason, I found his vanity endearing.

The odd thing is, I think Richard Hunt *did* do a great job in performing him! That voice and the mannerisms were just right. I even love the concept! It was in the design of the puppet itself that it went wrong, in my opinion, but who's to even say that they did go wrong? I was afraid of a lot of things just as much at that age, such as [and especially] the Pink Panther, the Grinch, clowns, etc, maybe it's just the memory of the fear that bothers me about the sketch. Maybe it's also the fact that I never really had a way to "officially" get over the fear of Placido (as I did for Pink Panther, clowns, etc), and I was completely surprised to see him when I bought the Put Down the Duckie video in 1996 (it was quite a shock considering I never thought I'd see the sketch again).

This is the 1988 PBS pledge week special originally entitled simply "Sesame Street Special". I wouldn't recommend it for 2-year-olds, as they probably have no idea who the special guests are, and there is little Elmo exposure, but for a fan of classic Sesame Street (especially one who was a small child in 1988 like I was) it's a wonderful show! Highly recommended! Great memories! Previously available only on VHS, it was released on DVD last month.

The "Pretty Great Performances" sketch, with Seji Ozawa conducting Placido, and the "Sesame Street All-Animal Orchestra".
