For people who are interested or available, there is a new puppet festival that will be happening this summer (August 6th and 7th, 2005) outside of Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA in the beautiful town of Almonte.

The festival will include many professional puppeteers, builders, etc. In fact one of the organizers is Noreen Young who built the puppets for shows like Read Along, Today's Special and Under the Umbrella Tree.

To find out more about it check out there website at Puppets Up!.

I think they may still be looking for performers if anyone is interested.

It sounds like a great event for anyone who loves puppetry. Does anyone think they will be going? I know I will be there.

Sorry for not posting sooner. I have been without internet for three weeks.

I am so excited about this event that I have decided to put my money where my mouth is and I have become one of the event sponsors.

I received an email from some of the event organizers and I have also agreed to do some puppeteering as well.

For those of you who do not already know, Noreen Young has a brother who is also a very successful puppeteer named Stephen Brathwaite (of Groundling Marsh fame).

He has just informed me that he too is sponsoring the event and has let me know about more of the events as they start to unfold. Apparently there will be at least one night of a puppet cabaret (geared towards adults).

I will post more as it develops. Just one more month left.

Anyone else thinking of going?

Hello all,

I've just received and email from the Ontario Puppetry Association. They inform me that they have been in touch with Puppets Up! and they are inviting any of their members to display some of their puppets during the festival.

If you are not a member this might be a great chance to become one and show off some of your puppet creations. It is also a great way to get you name out there and promote your business/puppets.

For more information contact OPA president David Smith at: dsmith@kos.net

Update...

Another update folks,

There is more exciting news to tempt any puppet lovers to try to go to the Puppets Up! festival this August 6th & 7th, 2005.

I have just found out some of the puppeteers that will be performing at the adult cabaret.

Here are some of the names and what they might be known for:

Nina Keogh is a cult icon in puppetry, but she probably best known for playing Muffy the Mouse on Today's Special.

Matt Ficner has worked worked with many projcts including Jim Henson's BRATS of the Lost Nebula, but is probably best known as Teddy from the show Caillou.

Bob Stutt is another puppeteer veteran who has worked on many productions over the years. He has performed with the muppets on Fraggle Rock as well as many other well known shows.

Gord Robertson and Jim Rankin of Puppets Who Kill fame. I am really looking forward to seeing these two perform.

Trish Leeper is another well known puppeteer/muppeteer here in Canada. She is probably best known for playing Ma Gorg from Fraggle Rock.

In addition there will be many other excellent performers on stage. And some even more amazing performers who will be in the ausience enjoying the show.

Anyone else tempted to go to the festival now?! :excited:

Here I go...

I am off to the Puppets Up! festival.

I plan on taking lots of pictures and I will share them here for those of you who could not make it.

I am suprised that I haven't heard from more Ontario residents about going. Buck Beaver? Are you going? Anyone else?

Anyways, pictures to come soon.
