I don't think anyone has mentioned this here yet, but there's a good tutorial on making posable hands and arm rods at the Project Puppet Blog right now. There's three parts up so far:

Looks pretty good so far; have a look.

Ohhh, hey, thanks for this! I'm diving into arm rods a little more deeply than I had before.

ON that note...I had the opporutnity to meet Dave Goelz TWICE last weekend & the 2nd time had the gumption to ask about arm rods. (I forget if I've glowed over this anywhere else...)

doofy little me: "Hi, umm..dave? Can I ask you how you get your arm rods so that they come out again for storage and things?"

smart, knowledgable Dave: "double-sided sticky tape & some pins to hold it in place"

doofy little me "oh. um...ok..I guess I'll keep doing that then & add the pins"

It was all very lovely, & has caused me to re-think all of the thinking I've been doing.

It is really cool how sometimes the most simple thing is really the best!
Also, thansk for posting the tutorial Andrew!

Hi all,

Hope everyone is enjoying the tutorial. We just posted Step Six of the Arm Rod and Posable Hand Tutorial. BUT, more important than that, is the following post regarding the Ladder Stitch.

If you are into puppet building and have not learned the ladder stitch, I highly recommend giving it a go. It's very simple, but extremely useful in many puppet building situations. It's one of those things you keep in your back pocket that makes a "seam"ingly impossible task very very easy.

Just out of Curiousity, how do you cut out the fleece coating for the arm?
