I have heard a rumor that back in the early 80's for a brief time Oscar had a tunnell that connected his can to the Fix it shop, and he would often Travel through the tunnell and pop in and see Maria and Luis, through another Trashcan that was in The Fix it Shop. Does anyone know if this is true or just a rumor? I think it would have been really cool to see this, because it would be interesting to see how Oscar reacts to them fixing things. Over the years, there was only a couple of times Iv'e seen him in The Fix it Shop, but it must have been in the Post Tunnell Days. Who has some information about this?

Hi - The rumor is true. I remember the episode where Oscar first appeared in the Fix-it-Shop that way. We see Maria and Luis working in the shop, when suddenly they hear noises coming from a large round trash bin in the shop. When Oscar appears in the can, they say "Oscar!" Oscar replies, "Who were you expecting, Mork from Ork?" This must have been around the late 70s or so. We never actually see Oscar digging, we just see him appear in the can.

I'm not sure exactly how often he would appear in that trash can, though. I can only recall one other episode of seeing him in the Fix-it-Shop trash bin.

I don't remember that but I do remember him popping up in other trashcans or so on Sesame Street. I thought this was cool. Didn't he also pop up in one of the trashcans in that little place where Bert's and Ernie's windows are or not? I remember something about him popping up in other places too.

I remember a 1984 episode when Oscar got sick of having so many people around him, Big Bird, Susan and Gordon, Maria, etc. So he relocated his trashcan to the side of Hooper's Store. At first he thought it was great because the only person that ever went over there was David once in a while, because that's where the back enterance to the store was. David would bring him out some stale food on his way out to the dumpster. Eventually Oscar got lonely and actually started to miss his old neighbors so he moved back. That's the only other Trashcan I ever saw Oscar in.

He did this again in a modern episode of SS only this time it was because he was tired of the same pointless things going on all the time. He was searching for a "Grouchy Place." In fact in the modern version he moved all over SS

Yeah, I was just thinking about that modern one when I read Boober's post. I wonder if they had that older episode in mind when they made the newer one.

Yeah, it was because he was tired of the same predictable things that happened day after day. Maria suggested a change and she got it in the end as usual.

I do remember an old skit from the 70's where Oscar was in a giant garbage can in the middle of the street's playground, but I can't remember any details as to why.

Yes, there was one where Maria kept trying to get her work done, but was constantly interrupted. Finally, she closed up the shop, locked the doors, took the phone off the hook, and thought she had all bases covered until Oscar comes up through the tunnel. At that point, all she could do was cry.

I wonder if Oscar still has a tunnel now that it's the Mail-It-Shop. Maybe they filled that in during the remodeling process.
