Yes, I didn't really think I'd ever change from my Kermit stamp. But see, I had originally wanted a good Robin avatar, and I just hadn't been able to find one. Thanks to Vic Romano, I found one. So why not?

Well, I could give you the long answer, step by step; or I could just say "I use Photoshop". But if you are interested in the long version. I have Photoshop cs, and do the following:

  1. Find a decent picture of the preferred character for an avatar.
  2. Either "mask" the character from the image using the lasso tool (depending on the images dpi, it's best to "feather" the selection for a smooth edge) or painstakingly erase the background from around the character after duplicating the layer image so the background is transparent.
  3. Create a new Photoshop document (PSD) to the specifications of Muppet Central's avatar regulations, sized 64 by 64 pixels at standard web resolution of 72dpi, RGB color.
  4. Drag the masked or "cleaned" character from the previous file into the new PSD.
  5. "Free Transform" the character evenly to size to fit the new 64 x 64 PSD as best as possible.
  6. Make sure the background layer of this new file is turned invisible so the character's background remains transparent and not white (or whatever other color your default settings are).
  7. Use Photoshop's "Save for web" feature set to "gif - 128 dithered" with the "Transparency" box selected.
  8. Save your new avatar to your computer and then either host it on a free picture hosting site or upload it directly to Muppet Central.

For those of you who have Photoshop, I hope this helps. For those of you who gave up after reading step one; fuhgedaboudit' and just post whatcha' want and I'll do my best to take care of it.
