Odd Combinations

Actually just Big Bird sang it. As far as I know. Unless Steve performed Kermit at Jim's funeral, but for some reason I doubt it.

Big Bird was also a special guest on the Muppet Show episode that guest starred Leslie Uggams."Kermit and I come from the same neighborhood,Sesame Street".

I always wished Kermit and Big Bird would have interacted more on that episode of TMS. They only had that one brief interaction at the beggining of the show when Kermit told the audience Big Bird would be on the show tonight and Big Bird stuck his head through the curtains and asked "Now Kermit? Now??? I figured since they didn't get to be on the show together hardly at all, that it would be a perfect oppurtunity to have the 2 of them together. Oh well like Big Bird himself said in the Season Premire of the 4th Season, "can't have everything"

There were two park skits where Bert was in an odd combination. One time it was Bert and Elmo. I don't remember the details, but I think it had something to do with Elmo making too much noise while Bert was feeding the pigeons. Then another time they had Bert and Simon Soundman in a park skit together. It was something where Simon was trying to teach Bert how to make the same kind of noises he makes.

There were also two skits where Bert and Herry appeared together. One was the La-De-Da-De-Dum number in the mid seventies and another was when Mr. Hooper celebrated the anniversary of his store.

There were some odd combinations with Oscar. One skit involved Cookie Monster asking him for some cookies. Another involved Herry Monster getting angry because Oscar wouldn't return something of his, so Herry started shaking his can.

Big Bird and Herbert Birdsfoot were in a street scene, which seemed like an odd combination too.

There are probably more that I'll think of later.

Bert wanted to learn how to make a tuba sound witch Simon was doing and after a few unsucessful tries, Bert makes a cow sound witch Gladys is all of a sudden she starts chasing him.

Some of these characters have appeared together quite frequently on albums.

I think that Elmo has shared a scene with just about every principal Muppet character on Sesame Street. Well...in a way. The Elmo's World segments feature several different characters sending email to Elmo. Some of the ones I have scene are Telly, Baby Bear, Prairie Dawn, Big Bird, Elmo, Bert, Oscar, Elizabeth and Little Murray Sparklesm, Grover and Herry. Maybe these don't officially count though.

Sometimes I think it's weird to see Bert and Ernie interact with Big Bird or Oscar. Mainly because Bert and Ernie are rarely ever seen on the street. When they do its fun though. That is one reason I like Journey to Ernie so much it shows a great friendship between Big Bird and Ernie. I think there was an episode where Ernie is a Birdkateer and another where he sings Bird a lullabye. Those were cool. Bert and Elmo is a little strange though just because they are sooo different. I can see Elmo really trying his patience though which would be so funny. One Bert and Elmo scene comes to mind in The Street We Live On after the part where Ernie shows up in Elmo's World and Big Bird looks through the window to find him. Then Bert pokes through the door looking for Ernie too.

Bert: Hi Elmo. Have you seen Ernie.
(Elmo answers him but I forgot what he said)
Bert: Where am I?
Elmo: Elmo's World!
Bert: Oh. How do I get out of Elmo's World?
Elmo: Elmo's not sure.
Bert: Ooookaaaay...

Bert looked so confused.

Another rare combination is Big Bird and Cookie Monster, but whenever I see them together I love it! They just look really good standing next to each other for some reason.

The same thing applies to Bert and Kermit, they were only seen together in the subway sketch and the only interaction they had was Bert saying "Hi Kermit"

Could someone please describe this skit to me? It seems I've heard about it a good bit and it sounds like a really cool one. (One that I might even wind up remembering once I've heard it fully described! ) Thanks!

It was actually a song. It starts off on street level with various muppets heading downstairs to the subway, singing as they pass by. It then switches to the interior of a subway car and the song continues. Bert says hi to Kermit as he enters the subway car. Kermit is wearing his news reporter hat and trenchcoat.

There was a skit from the very early 1970's where Bert and Sherlock Hemlock talked to Jon Jon about counting, and it actually appeared last in season 30.
