Page 2: Two Heads Are Better.
Girlish giggling issued from one of the closed dormitory doors. Count wanted to know who had taken to occupying these living quarters. Knocking on the outer frame, he asked "hello, anybody in there?" "Just a minute, we're getting dressed in here" a female voice answered, followed shortly with "which pair of shoes should we wear" asked more of as an aside to themselves, not expecting any contrary commentary. Goodnaturedly, the Count was about to provide some insight, until he heard the same question uttered twice by the same voice. "Are you all fright?" Obviously flustered, whoever was behind the pine partition could only retort with "um, that was... uh, my other half." He was a bit baffled when admitted into their batty bureau, two peach-fuzzed girls dressed in basic beautiful black. Sparkles specked the black velvety gloves encasing her hands up to her elbows, similar to the flecks of flash dazzling and dancing upon her showy shoed feet. A fringelike collar of faux furry silver topped the dress, leaving her heads free to lean in for a peck on the Count's cheek when introducing themselves. Standing next to the Count, she seemed to carry herself with an air of slightly taller stature, much like Mokey Fraggle towered over the rest of her five Fragglish fratmates.
Their mother had always wanted twins... And she got her wish... Except that these girls were unfortunately born at the same time, yielding the current results. "Count, a pleasure to meet you" said Claire, her head shining with its lustrous locks of blonde. "And don't forget about me" said Obscuré, her head bound in ringlets of dirtied blonde hair as the former took a step to her side allowing her sister to come into view. "Ah, light and dark" the master remarked. "Yes" they answered in unison, smiling pleasantly that someone finally got that connection in their names. "We were born this way" uttered Obscuré, followed by Claire "Two of a pair, a matching set." "And we're always dreaming..." "And scheming..." "Jotting down rhyming couplets of verse..." "But our real passion..." "Or obsession..." "Are shoes!" they both said at once. "We absolutely love shoes..." "Can never go wrong with
a good pair of fancy footwear..." "After all, shoes do make the woman." both said as they had habitually taken to finishing each other's sentences. "Must
be part of that half stuff I've been hearing about" the Count internally reasoned. "Oh Count, we happen to have something for you" mentioned the darker of the two halves. "From Claire and me..." "To you Count, as a token of our esteem." The girls produced a white marble 2 which made the Count quite happy, counting now two creatures of the night in his counting castle. A second storm cloud materialized, seeking the warmth of Ed's bomber pockets, the pumpkin ribbon trailing in its flight.
