Good. Now, what was I going to post? Another chapter? No, don't think so.
Hmmm, what's that? Oh, the other stories got more posted to them. Well, better make the rounds.

Not sure when I'll get to writting the next chapter though, what with the second stories from you guys popping up left and right. And what with errands for deals I'm negotiating. Oh well, we'll just wait and see.

<grumble grumble grumble>

Waiting is not one of my strong points.

Now then, I forgot where I was... Well, I'll just start over... 99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer. Take one down, pass it around, 98 bottles of beer on the wall. 98 bottles of beer on the wall, 98 bottles of beer...

Hey... If you wanna grumble at someone, grumble at yourselves. The more stories by other people, the more time away from my own I spend reading theirs and with other pressing matters.

As for that song Lisa... I'm down to 53 baseballs. Course, I'm not counting down any further till Barry comes back (hopefully in August).

Since you've been waiting this...

Chapter 13

With only one tube left to fill up, Edward looked pleased at the street lamp marking the canister housing a shrunken marble 9. "Well, let's get this over with" he remarked and started walking along the orchard lanes. Yes, when he fell from his perch above the street lamps last time, he had been brought to an exterior orchard lined by wooden fences. The cool summer breeze blew in the air, freshening Edward's complexion. Apple trees were in full bloom, with mossy green leaves decking the arborial columns. Small Cyber Spiders lined the fences, crawling slowly upon the intruder. A quick bat-blast later, there was only a weapon capsule in their place. Edward walked along the lane ducking any other obstacles in his path.

Apples dropped occasionally from the branches overhead, and a little Leaf Thrower would dispense its bladed leaves as well. Edward either stepped back or just shot at the target, gaining practice for what would await him at the end of the lane. There was a massive trunk with steps carved out in its center, and branches intertwined to form ledges on either side of the trunk. In order to reach the first set of steps, Mr. Grimness had to clear away the stormcloud pins. Ten gray clouds with lightning bolts shooting out straight downwards barred any access to the tree trunk stairway. When an apple fell to the ground, Edward picked it up and used his hurling arm. Tossing the apple along the ground, it bowled the clouds over freeing up the space to the steps. Climbing upwards, Edward made good time on his way to the final boss battle.

The climb wasn't without difficulty though. The steps only went so high and Edward needed to jump from branch ledge to branch ledge to make his way upwards. Apple Bombs dropped from the bowers, rolling along the ledge. Ducking these, Edward was able to jump to the next branch above. At the top of this section, he found a double branch ledge leading from one side of the trunk to the other. Once there, he continued leaping higher and higher. Leaf throwers waited for him in this second section. These were little stickbugs who clung to the bark throwing bladed leaves at whoever dared approach. The leaves and the bugs were weeded out instantly, providing a boost for his pill collection efforts which helped maintain his energy at peak level. Doubtful of ever reaching the summit, Edward found another double ledge and crossed it for a third and final section of ledges. Here, he found a few gliding bats, nothing he couldn't avoid while making sure not to harm them throughout his ascent.

At the tippety-top of the tree, he reached a ledge that lead to one last creaking door. Inside, he followed the leafy hallway to the boss's lair. Orchard-10 waited inside and dropped down instantly. This massive apple had a wormy head extended outwards from its main body. The bladed leaves formed a bow behind its neck, while two wheels were visible from its underside. Anxious for a good fight, Edward used his new gadget and fought on. Yes, this battle would end quickly he decided. "Street Claws" came his cry as he charged straight at the apple for a sinister swipe. The massive apple felt the blow as its life energy oozed away, trickling down past the floor of its lofty lair. The life energy of this boss, clear as amber and as sweet as juice, dribbled to a drip-drop-drip while the battle continued. Edward kept leaping from side to side and slashing with his cat claws whenever Orchard-10 rolled along the floor. It tried to defend itself with an apple red rocket fired off at intervals. Mr. Grimness dodged these left and right, not letting up his attacks. The apple's juice soon ran out as its complete body had been drained at the battle's end. An apple dropped blasting away at the tree bark behind Edward. This served to free the marble number 10 from the storm cloud locked inside. Edward picked up the number and was quickly shuttled off to the home base.
