New Scooby Doo Show?

Personally, I wanna see a new Hong Kong Phooey cartoon.

After reading the premise for Scooby Doo: Mysteries, Inc. -I'm pretty excited for this series. I wish I'd caught the preview back in April, but the series itself is supposed to start on Cartoon Network in July, I believe.
And the direct-to-video movies are great. I started watching them in 1998 when "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island" was released and I've been watching them as they get released since then. I love Scooby-Doo. (among many other cartoon characters- Yogi Bear and Hong Kong Phooey certainly included. Hanna Barbera just had so many great cartoons and characters that I loved as a kid- still love watching them now when I can.)
I actually have some of Yo Yogi! and Yogi's Treasure Hunt on VHS- I think those shows are pretty fun to watch. I think Yo Yogi! was pretty much inspired by Tiny Toon Adventures, The Flinstone Kids, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and the series that started that fad, Muppet Babies. But I love all those series in any case.

Yo Yogi was a tired and cynical attempt for classic characters to force an update on classic characters with early 90's slang and fashion that grows more and more ridiculous with the passing years. Making Snagglepuss look like the dude form "It's a Different World" (I remember his name being Dwane Wayne or something like that) was especially idiotic. And all the Chris Cross clothes they forced the cast into? Not to mention the green valley girl bear. Yuck.... And I'd even forgive that if it was well written, which it wasn't.

Where as A Pup Named Scooby-Doo paid tribute to the original series, only making Daphne and Freddy a lot more juvenile in their characters. This was the first version of Scooby-Doo I remember seeing, actually. And I actually felt it had a more fun feel than the original. Almost seemed to be a parody without totally making fun of all of the subject matter, like the first movie did. In fact, I'd say that the movies used Pup as a source for the writing. Freddy and Daphne especially.

And Tiny Toons was more of a next generational thing. The original characters were side by side with their apparent inspirations... playing them off as kids who idolize these characters and want to be like them. TTA is a pretty complex show for what it is. It was actually going to be a movie instead of a TV show at one point (hence Spielberg's involvement).

I grew up seeing both "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" and the various spin-off series in reruns as a kid as well as the first run of "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo" and I've always loved all of them. But while "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo" is definitely a bit of a parody, it still maintains the right amount of respect for the original series that the movies were very much lacking. (Well, the 2 theatrical movies, that is. The new direct-to-video production is actually very good. I'm looking forward to the follow up to that.)
Tiny Toon Adventures is its own thing and I love watching that one too. Though Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck and the rest of the gang were around sometimes, it doesn't seem like they were really there that much through most of the latter part of the series- like you didn't really have to have them around to enjoy the junior versions of them.
I've only seen the one episode of Yo Yogi! I've got on VHS. I can't recall if I ever watched this one as a kid. I don't think it's quite so terrible, but it's not necessarily my favorite Yogi series either. I like Yogi's Treasure Hunt and Yogi's Gang better.

The most recent times I saw Yogi and his gang were on Harvey Birdman, but they had them doing adult things and acting totally out of character like they were from an alternate universe. Also Huckleberry Hound appeared on the Brak Show, but he only barked like a dog.

I have to say, the second film was much more inspired than the first one. The first one was very much trying to be the Brady Bunch movie, while the second seemed to actually have a reverence for the show. All the villains coming back and all. Other than the forced American idol cameo at the end, I feel it was a stronger film overall.

Though i did like seeing Scrappy get what was coming to him.

There were some up on Youtube... they may still be there but under a different account. But I watched a couple a year back, and they were actually WORSE than I remembered. Though i did dig the Snoop and Blabber episode... but forced 90's pop culture... making them hang out at a mall. I mean, it wasn't as terrible as what WB with that Loonatics crap... but they just put every single tween show stereotype in for the sake of being hip. And what other show do you remember that was so desperate for ratings they had 3-D segments made halfway through the run of the series?

And how about how they made Yogi and his friends tweens while they kept Doggy Daddy, Quick Draw McGraw, Snagglepuss, and certain others their regular adult selves? These were the characters I remember that they made into tweens. Yogi, Cindy, Huck, Snagglepuss, Dick Dastardly, Hardy Har-Har, Secret Squirrel, and they made Muttley into a puppy.

I would love to see a new Yogi and his gang cartoon. Hanna Barbera is one of my all time favorite saturday morning cartoons. I grew up watching everything from the Flintstones to Scooby Doo. I missed the preview of the new Scooby Doo. I'm going to trie to see if anyone has it posted on youtube. Hope it's as good as i've heard.

Seems to be new Scooby-Doo merchandise too. I saw something similar to Hasbro's Buddy pack figures, but with Scooby, the others, and some of their monsters. If I didn't see them only at TRU, I'd make it appoint to buy them regularly. Man, I wish they at least kept ONE store near me.

I wish there would bring back something else bar Scooby Doo. Its been reused so many times, even back in the 70s with Jaba jaw or Joise and the ***** cats or the hunted phantom....
