Oh! So you mean it's a remake and not a sequel?

Yeah, the new Halloween is more of a remake, at least in the second half with the "adult" Michael. The first part of the film will supposedly deal with Michael as a child and his psychiatrist. This is all new stuff, only talked about in the original. So this is a remake/reimagining of the John Carpenter film. But if it makes money, I'm sure there will be a sequel or two or three or four...

I think Malcolm McDowell as Dr. Loomis is some of the best casting I've ever heard.

Also, Carpenter's Escape from New York is being remade with Gerard Butler in the role that Kurt Russell made famous, mercenary Snake Plissken. Unfortunately, Len Wiseman (the Underworld movies and Live Free or Die Hard) as at the helm.

I have to say that Live Free or Die Hard was the biggest pleasant surprise that I've had at the theater in a long while. Given, my expectations were really low (PG-13? Another Die Hard with cyber-terrorists? C'mon!), but I actually really enjoyed it for what it was.

Regarding the Carpenter remakes, I'm of the camp that says: why improve something that was so near to perfection the first time around? I think that Halloween, Escape from New York, the Thing, and even They Live are absolute classics, and remakes will only look ridiculous in comparison. Obviously, Thing was a remake itself, but it was a pretty substantial revision that had more to do with the original novella than the original film.

Regarding Zombie, I thought Devil's Rejects was pretty good, but instead of remaking Halloween in the way that he has done it (focusing on the backstory, etc.), he would have been better off, in my opinion, creating a film about an all new serial killer.

What is the actors name that is playing Michael Meyers

Tyler Mane, the 6'8 wrestler known as Big Sky is playing the adult Michael. Which is another departure from the original. In Carpenter's film, Myers (a.k.a. The Shape) was played by Nick Castle, whose father choreographed many classic Hollywood movies. Castle is an average-sized man, not the hulking giant Mane is. Mane appeared in a small role in The Devil's Rejects, but his best known role to date may be Sabertooth in X-Men.

Yeah! I read an interview with McDowell where he says he never saw the original or any of the sequels, nor did he want to see any of the films while he was playing Loomis. He wanted to come to the role totally fresh, and not be influenced by Donald Pleasence.

I think Zombie hit it out of the park, casting-wise, for this one. Check out some of the other actors he has lined up.

The lead role of Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis in the original) is played by a relative newcomer to film, Scout Taylor-Compton, who had roles on Charmed and Gilmore Girls.

Apparently, Zombie is using John Carpenter's iconic score, and will also include "Don't Fear the Reaper," which is heard in the original. More cowbell!

The adult Michael Myers mask is a back-to-basics classic look, not seen since Carpenter's film. Over the years, the Shape's mask has changed considerably. It retained the basic look, but in some films it was too white, or the hair was different or the eyeholes were too big. All Carpenter used was a store-bought Star Trek-era William Shatner rubber mask that was painted white, and had the eyeholes cut out to a slightly larger size.
