We have an important Mupdate!
Just received Super Grover, have him in hand here at home with me. After placing the pre-order on April 16, I got a message stating that pre-orders would start to be processed "soon" on May 6 (which led me to ask "how [soon] is [soon]?", then got charged and the shipping announcement with tracking number on May 12, to have the figure arrive today on May 15. So for those of you keeping track, that's 29 days, a month and one day more to get my package from BBTS. Something to keep in mind when placing the next pre-order for Big Bird.
Now for the real post... My figure review!
1 In terms of overall height, for some reason I expected NECA's figure to be squatter or have a lower center of gravity than Palisades figure. In truth, NECA's figure's torso and legs are slightly thicker than Palisades version, but I realized that's because the figure sculpt is made to have Super Grover leaning forward to fit in that perfect pose on the included flight stand.
2 Also, the thicker legs for NECA's Super Grover allow for the three points per leg: hip/thigh, knee, and foot; whereas the Palisades figure might have only hip/thigh and/or eet articulation.
3 Both figures tout the inclusion of bendy wire arms for posing. I never fooled with that regarding the Palisades figure nor will I with the NECA figure. What I will say is that the Palisades figure had more moveable shoulder articulation to lift the whole arm and they hang down closer to his body. NECA's figure doesn't have a true shoulder joint and the arms hang at an angle farther away from the body, but they do have rotating wrists and of course are able to be switched out for Super Grover's grabby hands.
4 The helmet's visor on NECA's figure is a bit looser than Palisades' figure, but can be positioned up or down.
5 The G-medal skewered by a lightning bolt on NECA's figure is a plastic sculpted figure separate from the figure rather than being molded onto the figure's upper chest like the Palisades version, I like that detail from NECA better.
6 NECA's figure came already wearing his cape so I didn't have to get help tieing it on and I appreciate that, given one of the reasons I bought NECA's figure is because the drawstrings of my Palisades figure completely separated and can't be redone so that figure's cape droops down onto the ground behind him.
7 Letters S and G. Love that the S is the one that won the Swimsuit category from the Letter of the Day Pageant sketch. Still wondering if we'll get the E from that sketch with Guy Smiley eventually. Was a bit surprised that the G was a darker green instead of blue to match Super Grover's fur tone, maybe they're paying respect to Gleep (or Proto-Grover). Will display both letters with Super Grover for now, but will display it with regular Grover once we get that mentioned 2-pack down the line (next year maybe?).
8 The most important point of all... Yes! NECA's Super Grover fits perfectly inside the phone booth that came with Palisades figure! Well, not exactly perfectly, the angled open arms means the figure can't fit fully entirely the phone booth, but you can place him as if he's exiting just well enough. So that means I have 0 qulams/reservations at all regarding the figure height scale for the line moving into future releases like Mr. Johnson or Sherlock Hemlock which some people might say are too small when compared to others. Nope, NECA has just earned that point of faith/trust from me, which is doubly meaningful when you consider the fact I'm visually impaired and the only chance I have to do these types of reviews or comparisons is after dropping the major coin to purchase the figures in the first place.
In summary... NECA's Super Grover is an addition I'm glad to have on my Sesame Street figures shelf.
