Muppets Charity Badges

Hello all.

I have just discovered that as part of the 25th anniversary special charity pin badges are being produced.

There are 4 in a set - Animal, Kermit, Fozzy & Piggy. Each badge is an official product and is made of a kind of moulding clay but are properly detailed as made by a professional badge manufacturer.

They are pretty cool.

The carity they have been produced for is Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy. This charity specialises in running music therapy sessions for disabled and mental children.

If you are based in the UK I will accept £10.00 to cover the 4 badges and P&P or if outside the UK I will accept $15.00 to cover the badges and international P&P.

Some of you may feel this is expensive BUT this is to help a charity for people less fortunate than you and me. The suggested donation is £1.00 per badge but I feel we should all dig a little deeper!

On a side note...

I have just made contact with the charity to see if I can get my own box of badges for distribution.

If this is possible, and I should know by later today, I really feel we should make the effort to get them sold.

I have also requested a press release and scans of the badges for you.

Ben,

While i think we all appreciate the effort, i don't really think it's right of you to be setting the donation people should give, if people were to give the suggested donation you would be looking at £5 including postage in the UK, and around $10 in the states. You are asking for almost double which is basically what Ebay scalpers charge, and as someone who has posted just 27 times, people don't know you that well and have no way of knowing what will go to the actual charity.

By the way, you'll find that the badges are being sold exclusively through the Barclays group so its unlikely that you can apply for boxes - i think the licensing rules would stop them from doing this.

I suggest maybe you contact the webmaster, Phillip and discuss this proposition with him first before you go any further, seeing as you are using his forum, and let him check you out. I think perhaps if you are doing this for the charity you give people the option of paying the suggested donation or giving a little bit more 'if they wish'.

Warrick has already posted scans of the badges, and they've been out for quite a while now - there is a thread here about them.

Thanks for the reply.

First let me point out that I have put this before Philip and he has asked me to see if I can in some way organise somerthing direct with him. I have since made an effort to follow this up on his behalf.

Whilst I know you meant no harm I feel that it is unfair of you to compare suggested donations and e-bay scalpers to my good nature. The fact that I put my e-bay feedback and a link to it shows I am genuine.

I have made contact with one member of the cahrity who does think that my offer of help IS viable but I am waiting to talk to the head of promotions.

I really do feel that this type of message should have been sent to me privatley or via e-mail. In your position with so many posts you have a good opportunity to influence people who may now be put off asking me to get the badges one way or another.

I am not a hokey pokey board user with crule intentions and I had a few hours ago made every effort to let Philip know of my intentions to try and get these for people.

I am not getting at you as I am sure you are not getting at me but I do feel the comments posted were unsuitable for the thread!

Following on from my last post I do feel it is worth mentioning to all members who are interested...

I am working with Philip to see if I can get hold of these and possibly sent to him rather than through me. I CANNOT guarantee that I will be able to do this or that I can even get my own supply. If this is the case I will have to pick them up directly from a bank for you which means that there is no guarantee I can get them.

I must warn you that Animal has started to disappear already and is the most popular.

If you do wish to get these but not from someone with 28 posts (see my ebay feedback to show I am a genuine person) then why not e-mail some of the other UK members on the board who will hopefully help!

I do not mind which method you all use to get these but remember - They are such a great item and are helping a good cause - we should all not forget this!

I'm not an administrator, and basically i have nothing to hide so my comments are always open for all to see.

I'm not making any assumptions about you, but simple fact is that people here don't really know you - thats my whole point. I'm glad you have spoken to Phillip (you hadn't actually stated that or i probably wouldn't have jumped in) though personally, i do feel that this could be better thought out and it would be a good idea to stick with what the charity sets themselves, after all it is a 'suggested donation' so people should be free to give as much as they want, or just the suggested amount.

I think it's a great idea you getting together with the charity and also Phillip to agree things. It makes it a lot more official, you can donate directly to the charity and recieve confirmation from them, and also Phillip can announce the final plans for this fundraising effort so we all know things have been run by him completely and you will likely be able to raise lots more money for the charity.

Someone doing this is an honourable effort and all kudos to you for doing it, but to people in the UK, these questions were bound to be raised so i hope you're not too offended that i did that.

Dont worry and I hope my comments were not too strong to you either.

It really might be a mamouth task for me to handle it all and hope I can get the MCS involved. My only worry is that it would not be viable to get a box of badges sent to the USA.

I felt that asking for what works out at £2.00 per badge is a fair request. If you were to get them at retail thats what a pin of this quality usually works out at and after all it is charity. The boxes more than highlight £1.00 is a suggested fee. Today I bought the set and gave £10.00.

It is more the USA market I am appealing to with my offer and hope that in some way I can help fellow collectors and at the same time a charity.

Lets see how it pans out in the next day or so!

Nordoff-Robbins has offices in the states, so quite possibly if they are getting involved with this, they can get a box shipped to their stateside people for you, and you wouldn't have to worry.
