I wished I could have gotten in on it. But I didn't know until after it all had happened. So much for speedy news in the South.

BTW: Great jobs on how far you guys got! That's amazing!

I think testing for voice first would have been a smart thing also if they were willing to train someone to be a Muppeteer.

However in this current audition they didn't want to teach the Muppet style of puppetry to some one who could do voices. They wanted somone already prepared in the art of puppetry.

So instead they looked for the opposite, Muppet style puppeteers with a gift for voice.
They want people with the whole package, and most likely did not want to spend time and money teaching basic puppetry skills to people who did the voices or else they could have gotten Voice artist and thaught them.

It seems to me it's easier they way they did it!

Bingo. You are bang on. I wouldn't say that's 'most likely' what it was, I do say that's exactly what it was. If someone lacks a basic raw talent for it, do you realize how difficult it can be to train someone these skills? Especially when you're not 100% sure that the person can achieve them? 'Muppet voice-abled' people are a dime a dozen - you'd be surprized. Just visit your local comic shop!!

I've seen shows were they cast puppeteers based on voices rather than puppetry and unless they fluke out and happen to come across a great bunch of puppeteers it's usually a disaster. I have a somewhat limited vocal range myself, but I think for the most part voice is relatively easy, puppetry is hard.

I finally received a letter from The Muppets Holding Company the other day, thanking me for auditioning but that they have no openings for me at this time. Which is funny, because they told me this six months ago! Still, it was nice of them to get around to sending this. Since the audition, I've been paid to perform a puppet in a children's video that will be made available for schools, and performed my own puppets on four cable access shows in Manhattan. And I'm going to do a fifth show asap. Your loss, Disney!

That's awesome, Tim! Likewise. I've been doing a lot more with my puppets since the audition... so it wasn't a complete waste of time, after all.
