I have been wondering how the Muppets usually reacted to Big Bird talking about Mr. Snuffleupagus. I know that the humans were usually annoyed, but were the other Muppets equally annoyed, or did they believe Big Bird more? I would imagine that Kermit or Bert might be annoyed by Big Bird believing in Mr. Snuffleupagus, but what about Ernie, Grover, Cookie Monster, and other Muppets who don't get angry or frusterated very often?

The whole Snuffleupagus thing is insane to begin with! Big Bird goes to the adults and describes Snuffy for the first time, and the adults act like he's crazy.

Excuse me, you guys live on a remarkably non-polluted inner city street with an 8 foot bird, a green grouch who lives in the trashcan, and what is even worse a forgetful cowboy (I mean, what's a cowboy doing in the inner city??) and you think a Snuffleupagus is crazy??? Lol

Lol, sorry, a little bit of nitpicking there perhaps...I guess I just felt sorry for Big Bird! lol

Aw, thanks, Fozzie!

Hmm, I would imagine Cookie Monster would believe in Snuffy...as long as he could get him some cookies.

After I read your post, heralde, I actually pictured a comic strip in my head(although totally not in characteristics of the cast) (Vic should draw it):

Frame #1: The adults surround Big Bird.
Big Bird: ...but, I PROMISE: he's a big, mountain of brown fur and his name is Mr. Snuffleupagus!
Maria: Right, Big Bird.
Bob: You shouldn't tell stories, Big Bird!
Susan: Again with the Snuffleupagus?
Gordon: Give it a rest, Big Bird.

#2:
Pause as the adults walk away.

#3:
Big Bird angry in background, adults all recoiled in foreground.
Big Bird: You just talked to an 8-foot tall canary puppet!!

As long as we're getting literal, here's a scenario I've imagined: Snuffy's cave is somewhere in Central Park, right? (at least that's what I'd always assumed) Well, he's got to walk at least a few blocks to visit his feathered friend over on Sesame Street. It's impossible that nobody EVER happened to notice this enourmous furry beast lumbering along in the middle of a crowded city. (Not to mention Mrs. Snuffleupagus---hey, she had to go out cabbage-shopping every now and then, right? ) Most times people did, through the sheer power of coincidence, happen to be looking the other way, or mistook Snuffy for a fat lady wearing a fur coat, but occasionally some people happened to spot him. Naturally, since not much is known or documented about the mysterious beast known as Snuffleupagus, the local news was eager to jump in and report on the "Snuffle-Sightings" whenever they occurred. Every now and then there'd be a flurry of these news stories.

Now here's the punchline: Whenever this stuff was on TV, Gordon, Susan, Maria, etc. all happened to have just left the living room, or just gotten a phone call, or been working late, or fallen asleep on the couch.

I don't really know about the other Muppets except that Elmo saw Snuffy back then. Elmo actually tried to help Big Bird by keeping Snuffy there while Bird went to get the adults. Also, it's been said that Gordon and Linda had a little more patience with Big Bird regarding the whole Snuffy thing. Interesting that Gordon would be more understanding than Susan. You'd think Gordon would be a bit more frustrated.

I remember a few skits where Muppet adults didn't believe Big Bird.

When the Count was away, Big Bird agreed to count everything he sees on Sesame Street in his place. When The Count returned, Big Bird handed him a list of everything he counted. The list was, 1 Snuffle-Upagus, 2 Snuffle-Upagus eyes, 4 Snuffle-Upagus feet, 22 Snuffle-Upagus teeth, 1 Snuffle-Upagus tongue, 1 Snuffle-Upagus tail, 1 Snuffle-Upagus snuffle, 4 Snuffle-Upagus feet, 4 Snuffle-Upagus knees....

Then the Count said Big Bird had one wonderful imagination.

And one time, Big Bird's room was a mess and was worried Snuffy would see it. Mumford came along and used his magic to clean the room. Big Bird thanked him and told him Mr. Snuffle-Upagus would love it. Mumford asked, "Snuffle-Upagus? You have some imagination." and he left. Then Snuffy came in and saw the neat room. Big Bird told Snuffy that a magician used his magic to clean the room. Snuffy replied, "A Magician? Aw, Bird. You have some imagination."

And one time, Ernie and Bert were in their apartment talking about Big Bird's imagination. Bert looked out his window and saw Snuffy walking by. He got excited and tried to tell Ernie about it. But Ernie wouldn't come to the window telling Bert that it was just his imagination.

I read at Muppet Wiki that Gordon, Linda, and Maria all eventually chose to believe Big Bird despite the lack of evidence. I am guessing that they all chose to believe Big Bird near the end of the time that Snuffy was seen by the adults.

Now that I think of it, can somebody list all of the adults who appeared in the episode where they saw Snuffy? I know that Gordon, Susan, Maria, Luis, Petey, Uncle Wally, Bob, and Linda were there. Was anybody else? I read somewhere that Olivia didn't appear in that episode. Did Willy or Mr. MacIntosh appear in the episode?

Another thing that I wonder. If Jim Henson was regularly performing in street scenes in 1985, would Kermit the Frog have covered the adults first official siting of Mr. Snuffleupagus, instead of phil Donahue? Or would Kermit have maybe been there to make a report with Donahue?
