I've been off a few days and wanted to say thank you for the nice comments about my comments. I am a lifelong fan of the muppets, and I am a lifetime fan of the muppets, too. And while there are certainly times when it has been tempting to say, "Well, if I ran the muppets...." I know that it is far more complicated that it looks. It's a job I couldn't do.
I know it is frustrating for those of us, the fans, who love the characters best, and have to look on in apprehension (apprehenson?) and wonder what will happen to our guys. Will they be okay? Will we get to see them? Will they be safe and warm and happy? Inquiring muppet minds want to know. It matters to us in a way that is can't realistically matter to a business, and what I most wanted to communicate is that--as a group--we are marvelously articulate and INTERESTED. If Disney wants to know what we think, well--here we are!! If they are more interested, though, in what 18-32 year old young men with an average income of who-cares want, then I'm afraid we won't be much help. If I were going to offer practical solutions to all of us, it would be these:
If they make it, buy it. Vote with your pocketbook. (If you see something new that's muppet-related, post to MC and tell the rest of us where to buy it. I am following my own suggestion here momentarily!)
If you are literate and can find your crayon, write a letter or two. Nice letters. Well-though-out letters. It is fine to state your point of view clearly and succintly, even if it disagrees with theirs, but this is our place for rants. Do not rant in the professional correspondence that sent out to express a point of view.
Keep in mind that even we do not all agree, and that's okay. Viva la difference and all that. Sometimes when I watch the old TMS shows, I am actually shocked by how little we sometimes see our favorites--whole episodes where Gonzo does not appear, or a big lapse between times when the EM gets a shot at a solo song. This is the way of it, and even Jim knew the value of balancing. (In trek-speak, this is "All the episodes can't be about Spock, okay?")
Come out of the closet! I carry my Kermit and Miss Piggy coffee (tea) mug at work. (I teach adults three days a week.) This mug is just like my Kermit and Miss Piggy mug that I use at home. And I keep a spare in the closet, in case I break on. I work my Kermit and Miss Piggy t-shirt to my writer's club meeting the other week--they all wanted to know where I got it. Spread the word, share the love. (I think we're supposed to stand around the square now, hold hands and sing, or something....)
Anyway, although this is not actually new news about the Mockumentary, I stand by with eagerness to see it. I stand by with my debit card to purchase any pre-publicity swag. In short, I stand by--waiting for what they will do and wanting ever-so-much to like it when I see it.
I can't do what they do, but I stand ready to appreciate it when it comes.
(Now, if they were hiring writers.....)
