Muppet Values is a past-tense concept that's been gone for, oh, almost 17 years now.
I beg to differ... as long as communites like this exist and keep the concept alive! :halo:

Actually I think that they are trying to force them to become something that they know they can market without changing the tactics with which they do that.

The suits don't want to change their formula to fit what the Muppets need. They want the Muppets to become what their marketing formula needs. Just like every other "accquired" property they have. Pooh, Power Rangers, yadda yadda.

The Mupps just aren't "another cartoon show". They're not. And they won't just simply slip into a corporate formula and kowtow to business-marketing-as-usual. And I'm glad for that. It is a HUGE testament to Jim Henson and the fiercely independent (weird? silly? lamely hip?) streak he inspired in his people and subsequently the global entirety of their works.

The Muppets are outsiders. They wrote their own ticket and remained true to their own calling. Sure, they worked with the establishment, but they were never absorbed by it. Or tainted by it.

And they don't teach Muppet Values in marketing school.

You know, Frank Oz was saing aometing about that. About how they don't work throu corpert oginization or somthing like that. And how Jim was like a mom and pop show. A very smell tight nit group oh highly skilled and trained individuals who really understood the characters and and what the Muppets were all about. And they all caried out very well Jim Henson's vision.

Yes i Beleive there are several people who can bring back Jim's vision. I think one person for sure can because he don't just work for the muppets but he has been a fan his whole life. Jim Lewis loves the muppets and was there voice for so many things i really think he could do some good writing for the muppets. I also think that Brian Henson wants to do somthing with the Muppets. I know he has tryed to step back from them but when it comes down to it i think that Brian was made for the Muppets. He will come back and really give the Muppets that charge they need.

Of course, and lets be truthful, there are plenty of people right here on this list that could do a very good job of running the zoo. While I like to maintain the fantasy that I might be one of them, I also know that the job would entail much more than just playing with puppets and being "the idea man".

What we're talking about here (and I think what the subtext of the question really) is "Who can replace Jim Henson?" For that is the very crux of the problem.

I have a very healthy ego, but I'm not going to claim that ability. It will take a very special person to factually replace Jim Henson. And it would be an infinitely small probability that a person who had all the talents of Jim in combination with the business savvy, sense of humor, and grasp of entertainment would be interested in helming the Muppets instead of following their own path. I think Brian Henson has many of those abilities... and I think he is trying to do this.

So the next step is finding somone who is capable of maintaining the property and preserving the kingdom (acting as steward, per se) until a better time or a new monarch arrives. Without, of course, gazing into the Palantir and going bonkers like Denethor in LOTR.

THAT, I WOULD volunteer for. Not the going insane part... the steward part.

And I will guess that I am not alone in this company? Speak up, you brave souls. And don't be shy. Which of you would accept that mantle were it offered?

I would accept it, of course; but, I would have to be able to hand-pick my team. And where would I get my team? Out of the fan-base.

I wish they would accept volunteers (basically freebie work!) to offer advice and suggestions from the fan-base. Who better to advise the use of the characters than those who love them most dearly? I'm sure we would be glad to do it and accept some meager rewards (staff jackets or autographed scripts or something like that).

Nope. I'm talking full control. Corner office on the top floor. BUT with great power comes great responsibility. Would you be willing to run the entire zoo even if it meant potentially crashing and burning? Willing to not just be creative head, but RUN the Muppet organization?
