*Renee is out sitting by the pool, although the cover is on it, because's it's still winter at the dorms. She watches a small bug crawl across the cover, making its way towards the other side.*
Renee: Maybe I should start writing my essay....*she glances at a stack of papers in front of her. Her saxhorn is sitting beside it.*
*Scooter comes outside, leaning against the doorframe, he smiles to Renee. He sees she's sitting on top of the table, actually.*
Scooter: Why don't you play something? That always makes you happy.
Renee: I don't...really feel like playing, Scoot.
*Scooter's expression drops a bit, and he sits beside her on the table. He hands her a glass of water, and sets some of those apple-blueberry muffins that UD and Prawncracker had made beside her.*
Scooter: Huh...*He pulls out his small guitar, and strums it a bit.* Then...I'll play for you.
Renee: *Watches him, curiously, quietly.*
Scooter:
"Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
W.C. Handy -- won't you look down over me
Yeah I got a first class ticket
But I'm as blue as a boy can be."
Renee: *Her heart melts, she loves that song so much. Scooter's voice isn't low enough for it, but she dosn't care.*
Scooter: *He smiles, continuing on.*
"Then I'm walking in Memphis
Was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel...
Saw the ghost of Elvis
On Union Avenue
Followed him up to the gates of Graceland
Then I watched him walk right through
Now security they did not see him
They just hovered 'round his tomb
But there's a pretty little thing
Waiting for the King
Down in the Jungle Room..."
"When I was walking in Memphis
I Walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel..."
Scooter: *Plays softly, leaning against Renee now.*
"They've got catfish on the table
They've got gospel in the air
And Reverend Green be glad to see you
When you haven't got a prayer...
But boy you've got a prayer in Memphis
Now Renee she plays piano
Every Friday at the Hollywood
And they brought me down to see her
And they asked me if I would --
Do a little number
And I sang with all my might
And she said --
"Tell me are you a Christian child?"
And I said "Ma'am I am tonight!!"
"Walking in Memphis!
Was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel...
Walking in Memphis!
I was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis!
But do I really feel the way I feel..."
Scooter:
"Put on my blue seude shoes,
and I boarded the plane....
touched down in the land of the delta blues,
in the middle of pouring rain.
Touched down in the land of the delta blues,
in the middle of pouring....rain...."
*Scooter stops singing, and he looks over at Renee, and he smiles.*
Scooter: Did that make you feel any better, Renee?
Renee: Yeah. It did. Thanks.
