Don is playing a melody on the piano
Randall: (humming along) What is that you're playing?
Don: It's a new song I'm working on.. it's going to be just great! Of course, brilliant as I am, it would be difficult for me to write a non-great song.
Randall: Can I hear a little bit?
Don: Ok.. (singing & playing)
Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags.....
Three bags....
Three bags....
Oh, I'll never get it! (Don bangs his head on the piano) Never!
Randall: What's the trouble, Don? It sounds good so far!
Don: But I can't find a word that rhymes with "wool"! Nothing rhymes with wool!
Randall: What about "fool" or "cool" or "drool"?
Don: ok.. (singing)
Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags of cool!
Oh, that doesn't make any sense.. that doesn't answer the question at all! I ask 'have you any wool?'.. they can't answer 'yes, three bags of cool'! It's absurd.
Randall: Maybe you should change the question.. how about 'have you any ice'? Ice is cool.
Don: Baa, baa, black sheep, have you any ice? Yes sir, yes sir, Three bags cool. .. No, no, that won't work.. Oh! I'll never finish this song! (bangs his head again) What are sheep doing with ice? .. And ice doesn't rhyme with cool!
Randall: Well, there's the problem.. sheep wouldn't have ice, so change the sheep to something else... a person, maybe.. and ice has lots of rhymes.. twice, nice, vice, entice, thrice.. and so on.
Don: I've got it! How's this sound? (a jazz band plays from somewhere, and the Monotones appear to sing backup)
(singing)
Hey there, mister
have you any ice?
On a hot day like this,
it sure would be nice
some for my lemonade,
and some for my head
and some for the sheep
who had wool instead
Hey there, mister
have you any ice?
On a hot day like this,
it surrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeee would beeeeeeeeeeeeee niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiceeee!
I did it again! It's a hit! A hit! A million copies, you hear? A million!
