I cried

One of the only times I openly wept during a movie, when I realized the new DVD release didnt have the Micheal Cain/Meridith Braun duet and I flung the case across my room... well, not really, but I was so ticked... good thing I got an older copy, thats the best scene in the movie for me, shes a lovely Belle...

Yeah, I can't imagine the movie without that scene. I think it was pretty sleazy to release it on DVD without it... I mean, even if it wasn't in the theatrical print, they are releasing DVDs with deleted scenes all the time these days and it isn't like nobody had ever seen it. It was a dirty, dirty trick.

To be fair, there were copyright issues, Im sure they wanted it in there...

Oh... I didn't realize that... sorry.

But wait a minute... what copyright issues? Did they own the movie and everything that goes with it or didn't they?

wait.. what? they cut a majorly important song? why? when? dang.. I just realized the other day that I didn't have this one on DVD yet.. just VHS so was going to go look for it.. but if they've cut it up.. not sure I want to bother... (will just copy over my vhs..)
that's just stupid to cut it now, after years and years of everyone expecting it to be there.... heck, i'd forgotten that it wasn't in the theatrical version...
should have at least offered veiwers a choice about turning the scene on or off or something...

Hold on. So that song isn't on the DVD? I have a copy of MCC (the 2005 release) and it's on in the full screen version. It was also on the old VHS.

Am I missing something in this conversation?

Alrighty, when in doubt, go to Muppet Wiki...

http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/The_Muppet_Christmas_Carol_(video)

This is what is says about the 2005 DVD release:

A single disc titled "The Muppet Christmas Carol: Kermit's 50th Anniversary Edition" released was released in 2005 to recognize Kermit's 50th anniversary. This DVD holds both the theatrical edit of the film and the "home-video edit" (or "extended cut") of the film. The widescreen version is of the theatrcial cut (not seen since the film was in theaters); and the Full Screen presentation of the film is of the extended cut that includes the song When Love Is Gone.
