Again, we must blame reality TV the sweatshop produced junk food for all the senses and soul. And not even quality junk food... the stale generic versions of them you find at the dollar store... you know, like those generic Oreos with the chalky filling and cookie parts that taste like you're eating a cigar butt? Again, everyone just watches these ironically, and no one actually seems to enjoy them for being anything BUT Trash. They complain how it took over TV and how these types of shows have hijacked TV... but they still watch the stuff.

Watching things ironically ONLY works for bad Sci-Fi movies. I'm sorry, but it does... and of course, the occasional bad old cartoon like Clutch Cargo. That stuff is FUN to make fun of. And frankly no one tied up law enforcement and emergency rescue services trying to break into scripted union programming. I'm proudly one of the few people who don't care about Heidi and Spencer (or even understand exactly who they are), and thinks that the Jon and Kate crap was all preplanned and staged by TLC. There's more fiction in reality TV than in Star Trek.

So MTV's finally admitted that they don't show music videos anymore...surprise me.

I still haven't forgiven them for how they botched up the Live 8 coverage back in '05. I tuned in for some social justice and some cool tunes, and those VJs kept cutting in every five seconds with their relentlessly hip attitudes and their inane chatter.

As for "Jersey Shore" - that show is just annoying. And for the record, only one of those kids is actually from New Jersey. Not too long ago, the cast made an appearance at a nightclub here. Caused a lot of chaos, the police from three different towns had to be called in...not nice.

Jersey Hos... err. Shore basically erases what faith I had left in human kind. I don't know which is worse... the fact that they made that a show, or the fact people WATCH it. That and the Rea; House Hos of Fill in the Blank City. UGH! You used to need a credit card and an I.D. to watch that sort of stuff.

Ha. Oh wow, I mean, after all these years... not that I'm surprised or anything. They've substituted all the actual music with crappy (is there any other kind?) reality TV shows. I've never gotten Mtv because I don't have Foxtel, but I used to occasionally watch it at my friends house, which is gong back a fair while. I *do* like Mtv shows such as Daria, Celebrity Deathmatch and Bevis and Butthead, and when they used to play all the cool grunge bands in the 90s (...EVEN though three quarters of them were against Mtv and how it was all about image. I like music videos but when you think about it- who can blame those bands for feeling that way?), but now... argh, it's about time, really. I always joked about why they still call themselves "music" televison. I'll just stick to my Rage programme, thank you.

Sigh. Thanks for posting about this. Like so many of us, I'm not too surprised. It's clear that they've been neglecting the music industry for years.
I watched it back in the late 1980s when it was still a music channel. Admittedly, it wasn't perfect, but for teen kids it was one of the best ways to learn about new bands and songs. They may have kept their teen audience, but they did so at the cost of sharing the music. I suppose it is more important for them to make money than it is to make music.

Rage? I'm guessing you're in Australia? (Hard to keep up when it's not in the location field). Wow - i envy you - they play videos that hardly anywhere else in the world does!

Wow, so you've heard of it? I suppose it's fairly popular, but I wouldn't know. Good to hear you know of it though- it's one of my favourite shows. <3 There's nothing better then turning on the telly at 11:50 at night and watching Rage until 3:00 in the morning or so *lol*. They play some really good 80s, grunge and old-school rock... and the best indie/alt. videos around!

And yes, I'm an Australian.
