Isn't that some thing they KINDA explored on an episode of Sanford and Son, when Julio's sister and nephew were staying with him, and his nephew enrolls in their local elementary school, but the school officials try to hold him back a grade than he should be in, because, "The teacher is unable to teach him" because of the language barrier. That was one of Fred's crowning moments when he went down to the school and said the boy IS smart enough to be in the fifth grade, and it's the teacher who should be demoted a grade, because if he isn't able to teach him, he isn't much of a teacher.
