I think I an going down the doll joint route for attaching the legs to a puppet is this a good idea? Also how do you hold trousers/pants on a puppet without stitching them on so they don't fame down all the time.? Do you literally cut a hole in the trousers/pants and put your arm through there or is there a better way?

Doll joints are the BEST way to attach legs and arms. I used to sew them on until I discovered doll joints. There is no way I will ever go back to sewing them on. As far as pants go, I usually just make a slit in the seat of them and pull my arm sleeve down and out of the slit. I have never really had a problem with them falling off. You need to make sure that the pants are pulled up high on the body though.
