I watched "Hotel Rwanda" (2004) this evening, a true story film about the mass genocide in Rwanda in 1994 that killed almost a million people. Tough film to watch at times, but mainly due to the subject matter and knowing this really happened. It's not real gratuitous; we usually see the aftermath of the violence rather then killing scenes in progress. Still very sad, of course. And very well made and superbly acted by the star, Don Cheadle. He is in the movie almost every second. He plays a real life hero who helped saved a lot of lives in the midst of the mass slaughter. I usually like lightweight, fun entertaining movies to relax with but once in a while I love a serious, important, well-done true story movie. This one hits the bullseye for that.
