Actually it was The Pink Panther that got the lamp post, The balloons have to be "sponsored" (paid for) by someone. Kermit used to be "courtasy Jim Henson Productions", but if he wasn't in last year's parade, and doesn't make it into this one-you get the feeling Disney doesn't feel it's worth paying for? I'll be Big Bird and the SS float make it.

Kermit was int he 2004 parade (i taped it) and the guy sayed "Kermit the Frog... the favorite green guy and is fernnished (?spelling? "sponsored" ) by the Muppets!"

I always look foward to the Big Bird Float and the new addition of the Grover one every year now. I hop to see the Kermit one this year, too.

To be totaly honest, I don't remember that. But if Kermit doesn't get "furnished by The Muppets" it probably means Brian already went through all of Disney's money, or he just doesnn't feel he's "adult" enough!

AHEM... lemme clear this all up. Kermit WAS used in 2004, after the Disney deal, and was sponsered by "Muppets", meaning Disney furnished it for that year. HE was absent last year. I think it's because Disney wanted to Pimp their crappy kid's show JoJo's Circus, instead. I mean, JoJo's Circus? Anyone ever even heard of that? Is it that popular?

Anyway, while I'm on the subject, anyone else P.O.'d about that Pikachu balloon? I know it's their 10th anniversary of that thing, but why the shell doesn't Nintendo make and sponser a MArio Balloon? Very disappointing.

Oh yeah, BTW, last year it was the M and M balloon.

Macy's parade makes key substitutions

NEW YORK, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York will not feature Charlie Brown and Kermit the Frog this year.

While the inflatable images of the two children's characters will be notably absent from the 2006 version of the traditional event, this year will offer some new gigantic faces -- the Energizer Bunny, Flying Ace Snoopy and the Pikachu character from Pokemon, said the New York Daily News.

Also set to take flight in the annual event is a hot air balloon that will help celebrate the parade's first appearance in 1924.

Along with the new cast of characters, the parade's organizers have instituted new safety measures, such as wind-measuring stations along the parade's route, all in an effort to avoid dangerous incidents that have occurred in recent years, the Daily News reported.

The newspaper said that the most recent of the balloon-related incidents happened last year when a balloon hit a light post, injuring two sisters.

HOW!?!? How can Macy's do this to us? The same institution that gave us the ASk Jeeves Balloon, the Dortitos Cool Ranch float, and the New Coke sing and dance spectacular?

Oh well... if they have to make room for the Nazonex Bee, I guess that's the price to pay.

No such luck, Pat. they have the lineup listed on Macy's Parade website www.macysparade.com and there's no regular Muppet float or balloons. Just Sesame stuff which is better than nothing!

That is a bunch of Crap I Cant believe they would do that just because some folks had an accident, the wind blew it over, now Charlie, and most importantly Kermit will not be in the parade, well at least Sesame Street is going to be in the Parade.
